Unauthorized site

Unread post by 67mutt » December 21st, 2010, 8:46 pm

Recently, when I log onto this site, my computer gets invaded by a site called "Military Jeep Webring". Has this happened to anyone else, and how do you block it?

Look at the bottom of the page.

I obviously hadn't noticed that before, thanks for pointing it out. It's still annoying when it pops up, and covers the page you are trying to read. When I close it out, I lose this site too, and have to re-start it over again.

I'll look into it with the service provider, that should not be happening. We are part of the military jeep webring, but it shouldn't come up unless you click on it. Something must be screwy at the server.

Had it pop up on me half a dozen times too, but with a new laptop at first thought I was dragging over it or causing it to happen myself. Just happened to me again on my old computer, but I have been able to go back without closing the browser. Windows7 has a mouse default that causes the mouse to drag everything around unless you click to release it. It is possible to go in and customize it to normal operation, but a PIA till you find where to fix it. Hope you figure this one out Moose.

Ray, That is not a windows default, it may be on your computer though. Usually it kicks in if you double click on something and hold it for a few seconds. It can be reconfigured in mouse properties.

Rick

BTW, I had the pop up also for a bit but have not gotten it the last couple days.

Here's how to stop it:-
If you are using Internet Explorer:-
1. Double-click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop (or wherever you have it located).
2. When it opens, click on "Tools" and then scroll down to "Internet Options"
3. Click on Internet Options and when it opens, click on the "PRIVACY" tab at the top.
4. Now click on the "SITES" button.
5. You'll see a blank box with the header "Address of Website".
6. Type in that box the following.... http://hub.webring.org/hub/mbgpwring
7. Now click on the "BLOCK" button and then click the "OK" tab.
8. Now you can close Internet Explorer and this nuisance won't pop up again (hopefully).

For other browsers (eg Firefox), the procedure should be similar.

Never happened to me on Firefox, but I have Adblock Plus installed to my version. They make a version for other browsers.

OK, It is happening to me now and it is so bad I can only shut down the page. I have tried to find a way to block it in Firefox but have been unsuccessful.

It still happens to me too. If I let it load, then hit the back button, it usually stays away for that session. USUALLY!
