WTS: RESTORED M151A2 new top, tires, & more $10900

Unread post by daninnm » October 30th, 2016, 12:07 pm

This military jeep is fully restored...from NM/TX area , bought from a Customs and Border Patrol Agent in Las Cruces, NM, that did not have time to complete the project. CLEAR NM TITLE. We did the work in a local shop. All work described in condition below. Minor nicks and military equipment attachment holes (such as Fording kit, radio tower, etc.) visible. Bubba has not modified this vehicle. It was never cut or demilled in any way. Lots of new parts installed from RAPCO Parts Co. This is a used military vehicle and restored to motor pool condition with new maint and lots of accessories. A few rust spots on the cross member but no other places that we can see - the lower price reflects this small defect. I will have my welder repair this item for an additional cost if desired but it is certainly not necessary.
Large number of pictures available-will post a few key ones additional pictures available via e-mail - 40+. NM transport possible on my trailer within a 600 miles or so.....Successful buyer needs to contact seller for details on shipping and loading within 24 hours. Complete top to bottom restoration with new tires, good running (arsenal rebuilt) engine, new lenses on tail and stop lights LED bulbs inside the buckets. New radiator. Painted Gillespie tan (Sand). New battery box metal was the only part added – it was corroded by a leaking battery. No bondo added to this vehicle - there were no major body issues in this vehicle-restating: IT WAS NEVER CUT ANYWHERE. Odometer says 29k miles but instrument panel including speedo was out of the vehicle when purchased so may have been replaced. We replaced two gauges but not the speedo. Comes with pioneer tools and gas can with NOS tie-down straps from RAPCO. New batteries in place. Clean and newly lined gas tank with new fuel pick up. ROPS kit installed (including seat belts-the original ones) . Comes with top bows and door rods (not shown). NOS (in the box) vinyl top included. Original and nice condition seat cushions and seat backs installed. (there are some marks on the seat cushions which I will provide photos of if requested. New windshield with working wiper motor. New Firestone 700X16 NDCC tires. Lots of NOS bits and pieces installed from RAPCO Parts Co. Marked for II Field Force Viet Nam with 101st AB (Airborne) plus lower unit markings. A few very small dents are evident (and photographed). But do not attract from nice overall appearance. Runs, starts, & drives well. We believe it was a NM/TX jeep and has been in sunny, dry, salt-free-road NM for at least the last 10 years. Former owner had started restoration and took the jeep apart but did not begin reassembly and sold it 5 years ago to the Seller....garaged all of the time it was under restoration.
List of New and NOS Parts Added
PIONEER TOOLS, STRAPS, & GAS CAN INCLUDED, BUT NOT SHOWN IN PICS
NOS A2 hood (original has a crease in it)
NOS A2 windshield with glass and wipers plus wiper motor

This is not to nit pick; just a FYI for M151 owners. The front wheel hubs with the square plugs were for Marine Corps M151s; the Army M151s had the lifting eyes like the rear wheel has. I just bought a whole 1976 series PS Preventive Maintenance Monthly magazines on ebay;the January 1976 issue page 11 says if your M151A2 has square heads instead of lifting eyes, you are supposed to fill out form DA 2407 to get lifting eyes instead of square plugs.
For added interest, there is a two page drawing of Connie in a bathing suit in the center pages.

looks like a very good deal to me. Was thinking hard just now to buy it as a vacation jeep for CA. But realized too many projects. Good luck on the sale.

That picture keeps popping up about the hubs but keep in mind that the vehicle in that picture is in the beginning stages of a fit out so it is entirely possible that by the time it was issued it had the proper hubs.

The A2's all had the lifting eye hubs I believe. I am pretty sure the square hubs were an A1 and earlier thing. Ken, can you verify that?

No. My USMC A2 has the square hubs and being a Barstow pretty sure that is how they were build.

Hi Rick,
from my information, all M151A1s and A2s should (SHOULD) have the square plugs. However, way back when, a whole batch of vehicles was delivered to the Army with square plugs fitted. The Mil sent out an advisory to remove the square plugs and to replace them with the eye-plugs. It seems that TACOM placed the order for vehicles on behalf of the Army and the USMC (that was how it worked for almost every purchase of mutts) and a batch got wrongly delivered to the Army. What's the betting that at the same time, the Marines got their batch issued with eye-plugs? The USMC should have got a similar advisory, but maybe not. And if they did, was it carried out on all vehicles? Yeah, right !
ken
Kind regards....
Ken

This jeep is in Albuquerque? I work there and live in Rio Rancho. I have an M151A1, but it is a reweld. Runs good now, look pretty good. I'd love to see the A2. Contact number? I must admit it looks really good.
