Re: Barstow M151A2 For Sale - Raleigh NC
I am going to make a suggestion here, Unless you plan to purchase this vehicle then do not criticize it or try to change the description. I am SURE that anyone that is going to spend that kind of money on a vehicle is going to do PLENTY of research on the vehicle for themselves. If I am trying to sell a top of line vehicle I do not want tire kickers making public comments on what "they" think is wrong with it. He has the original paperwork that came with the vehicle. Matt is one of our original members and we owe him that courtesy.

I have 381038, which obviously is relatively close to Matt's hood number. But mine is not as clean as his and I bolted a few things onto it. This example here is clearly a top notch truck, nice enough for a museum but also good for a some relaxed trail riding.

Re: Barstow M151A2 For Sale - Raleigh NC
Hi Folks......
a small comment on the "hood numbers" research.
I've kept a record of USMC-owned M151-series vehicles. It's not extensive but it does lead to some conclusions.
At first I always assumed that ALL USMC mutts were splt into two types.... those beginning with "3" and those beginning with "5".
All the 3-series were M151A1-types and all the 5-series were A2-types. As the record of serial numbers increased, I was surprised to find that there were some 3-series which were in fact M151A2 vehicles, so that led me to doubt my original conclusion.
However, it now seems that I was partly right.
The majority of M151A2s do begin with "5"....but there seems to be a small batch of A2s that begin with "3"..... but it seems that these are MRC-83A-versions of the A2. Exactly why they should be numbered using the "3"-series, I haven't yet figured out. These 3-series M151A2s have side-drains.....one has no emission control systems.....so maybe the "3"-series A2s are pre-control models and the "5"-series are all fitted with emission controls.
If I rememember correctly, Big George in NL now owns an early Ford A2 (no emissions).... is George's A2 a "3"-series? Are you reading this, George?
Any comments or speculation gratefully received.
Ken

i'll tell you this, had the misfortunes of life not compelled me to sell my A1, i would be all over this like congress on a tax dollar, and the year would be irrelevant to me.rickf wrote:I am going to make a suggestion here, Unless you plan to purchase this vehicle then do not criticize it or try to change the description. Matt put in countless hours cleaning, restoring ,and pledging this jeep ...He is meticulous in his work and these jeeps in this condition will only appreciate in value. ..The price is right on the money if not too cheap....what can you buy for his asking price? ... a 68 shelby -no ...SS 396 anything-no...split window Vette-no...Dodge SuperBee-no...Challenger-no...new farm tractor-no...house lot in NJ-no....These jeeps (MUTTS) are now coming into there own. I just wonder what this type and condition jeep would bring at one of the large auto auctions? ....It should go quickly to someone who knows what it is!....The first photo says it all.....A jeep in the wild...A true 10.....how much could a man ask for????????

Re: Barstow M151A2 For Sale - Raleigh NC
He more than likely cleaned some of the south GA clay from some of the recesses on the underside. I drove this Mutt a decent amount on dirt roads and around town. It spent a bit of time in Midtown Atlanta as well. it was one that I had no issue with driving 50-100 miles round trip with no notice, and did several times. I always thought it was a 1971-1973 based on the serial number and was curious why the year on the paperwork was different. The serial number was correct and that is all that matters. Again, this jeep is a beauty and would make a great long term investment!

Matt:
I have a 1988 M35A2C (Air Force). Our grateful governments form 97 states it’s a 1985. So forms can be incorrect, the Jeep still remains pristine regardless of year.

Whatever the year, I'd rather be with form 97 than without.
Matt, over the years, your experience has been a great value to all of us. Please keep us current on this sale, and Good Luck with the Buick.
Thanks, and Regards

I looked at the jeep today in person. For sure one of the nicest 151s I have seen so far. Motivates me to go back to mine and make it look a little nicer. But I think it should be a keeper, nothing like that will appear again.
