Nice 'A2 with Trailer in Iowa

Unread post by retiredpara » December 17th, 2014, 11:49 am

Advertising it as a '68 'A1...Maybe that is how it is titled. Price on the high end, not sure if the market is bringing that or not. Guess we will know if it sells close to that.
Looks like a very nice rig. He claims everything works, and from the pics, it certainly appears to be in top notch condition. No engine or underbody pics, but that is not uncommon when listing a vehicle.
Unit markings are done wrong, and the antenna tie down is a strap, but that is nit-picking on my part, and easily corrected.
Looks nice!

Antenna mounted on wrong side for a singe mount setup. Sugar scoop should be on rear and higher to clear top and not catch on trail obstacles. Looks like the reason for the sugar scoop may be a license plate light. As long as the underbody is good the price is in line considering the trailer. I see the holes in the left rear inner fender for decon mount. Number one rule of photography, never take a picture of your own shadow on the subject!
Ok, That is number two but number one involves unnoticed mirrors and naked people.................. . We won't go there!

If that hood number is correct for the vehicle, it would be a '68-contract delivered in March 1971.... Ford 2nd-series A2.
It's a pity there's no under-hood photo..... with the defining BUDD plate.

Wouldn't that have the straight fenders and no side drains? That has the curved fenders and side drains. I think I see a side drain peeking out there.

Hi Rick..... Ford's first batch f A2s had the full front fender but by the end of 1970, the modification to the fender had been incorporated in the production line and by the end of 1970 (Oct-Nov approx) the full fender had been phased out.

I downloaded the side-on photo and enlarged it.....it doesn't look like a side-drain....more like a bolt-head or similar.

It is interesting then why all the paperwork matches up all the way back into the time in service. Something that is pretty hard to come by. End of the contract and used whatever was laying around, including the data plate?
