Been watching it for a while Mark. He may come down at some point. Looks to me to be a former TOW jeep. That is what piqued my interest. Looks pretty nice though eh?!

Although it has a LOT of holes drilled in it I am not convinced it was a TOW vehicle. I am pretty sure the TOW mutts did not have ROPS, it would not have fit. He also says no rust but the passenger side floor has been replaced and there are no shots of the drivers side floor or the underneath. He seems fairly knowledgeable about 151's so the lack of pictures that he knows everyone will want to see makes me wonder. It is not what I see but what I don't see that bothers me. It has been buzz bombed fairly recently, to cover what?

It sure looks like an ex TOW mutt judging from the holes in the dash (passenger side) and jerry can bracket mounting holes (driver's side).
ROPS was probably retrofitted after it was stripped of all the TOW stuff.

I would think that TOW would be the last assignment since they were and still are used in some shape or form. Unless a PO owner installed it and then torched it out, not likely.

it had ROPS installed, don't think that corresponds very well with a TOW launcher

These DRMO pics were taken by the late Russ Lane from Shade Tree Recyclers. Note these mutts have accessories (i.e. spare tire mount and antenna hook adjacent to the side mirror bracket) found in TOW versions .

Jay, guess you would agree nevertheless that firing a TOW missile from inside a hardtop is even worse than with just ROPS :)

It will open the rear window and put the windshield down automatically..................................... and real fast! The TOW support vehicle, which carried the extra missiles also had the tire on the side and all of the accessories of the standard TOW setup but they also did not have the ROPS. I would guess it was advantageous to put the spare on the side so you could open the rear window on the hard top without removing the spare tire. Then again, you were not going to open the side door if the tire was on there either. I will check, I do not remember now if the one I worked on had the cage or not, It has been a long time now, we set it up as an ammo carrier. I do know he had a tow carriage but I do not remember if it came out of that vehicle. He had many 151's at the time.

Besides the other indicators, it appears to never have had the left side footman loop installed for the fuel can 'Y' strap, just like a TOW jeep.
Also appears to never have had the rear seat supports installed left and right.
There are many reasons why it could have had ROPS at some point.
But hey, let's drop the whole topic in case the owner checks in here and decides he has a super rare and valuable variant!
