1967 Ford M151A1
Gents,
I ended up buying more than I need to keep. This one is a very good runner, easy starter, doesn't smoke. It is a cut and welded jeep. The welds look very solid underneath. Whoever did it used some strong channel iron/steel to brace along the ribs. This was initially a US Army jeep, then transferred to the US Navy and likely used by the USMC. I verified serial # and BUDD with Ken, they seem to be correct for a USN/USMC jeep based on what he has in his records. Still has the USMC bumper. Has clear title.
Much more info and pics here at the CL ad:
http://springfield.craigslist.org/cto/4961633533.html
Jeep is located in SW MO, zip 65629.
Email me through the CL ad, mention that you are a '838er. I have pics from underneath, and happy to take any you wish. Vets and 838ers will get a good deal.
I also have a takeout engine, loose transmission, radiator, clean block, cam, crank and some other bits we can deal on.
Thank you
George

Can we start pickin' on it? I noticed you did not mention the reweld in the ad. "Good solid body".
I kind of like that trailer hitch idea, although that area was not designed for any tongue weight at all, just pulling and stopping. It can be removed and swapped on any other MV with a pintle hitch.

Pick away!
No, I deliberately didnt want to mention the cut and weld in the CL ad. I will educate anyone interested in the jeep as to what that means.
As far as the solid body comment, I will update it. I meant that compared to many/most, this thing is very solid. Not sure what you see as far as rust on what sells up there, but I have seen a lot of these with more holes than swiss cheese, this is pretty solid in comparison to the majority observed.
If someone wants to end up with a 100 point restoration, this isn't the vehicle for them. But if someone wants something they can run right now, or one to restore into a respectable example of the series, at an affordable price, with title, than this is a very good deal.
And hey, it is a Jarhead jeep. I will even throw in one of the "Do Not Eat" USMC Claymore's!

Re: 1967 Ford M151A1
It is not totally a Marine 151, it does not have the rear tie downs. It looks like the ROPS was added in, the rear mounts are on top of the fenders instead of inside of them. I would have NO problem with that, less holes are better. I would have fabricated a new mount that looks a little better than using the inside fender mount though. Overall it is not bad looking and as long as the underbody is good the price is not too bad. The part that scares me is your description of the channel iron on the rails.
I told my Marine buddy at work about the do not eat on the Claymores and he laughed his ass off. You guys think I am tough on Seabee? You ought to hear me with him! Of coarse he gives as well as he takes.

Bad description on my part. Not channel iron, but L shaped angle, new stuff, welded lengthwise alongside each rib, front to rear, with good length to it to support the underbody on either side of the cut. I didnt do it, so it is done well!
Yeah I love my Marines. I had the honor of being made an honorary member of the Marine Corps League several years ago. Good people. No better than my soldiers, but they all think they are!

Sold Pending Funds! A good deal for both of us.
I will delete the CL ad when I have the cash in hand this week.
Thanks to Rick, Moose, whomever else for giving us a spot to buy and sell.

I agree, I gave up the good's on my deal recently, because I did list mine here on the site and sold it here on the site. My 151 did go to a good home and that means a lot to me.rickf wrote:If it sold through here we must know who bought it.

LOL, nah... he's just giving things time to sink in good and close guarding his only running 151.... LOLrickf wrote:Hillbilly? I wonder? He has been in withdrawal since his left.
OR... he's maybe trying to figure out where to install the beer holder for the next run, as I did when I first got it. I used a couple ammo pouches for the cans and two canteens full of beer for when the cans ran dry. "You can never have too many beer holders"... LOL and NO, your riding buddy don't make a good beer holder, especially if he or she is thirsty.

Looks like a nice 151 you got there, and yes... as far as a jump in it and go 151, I am sure someone will want to get it just for that. I already miss mine and it's going to be a while before I can get another one. But I think I will also consider getting a "jump in it and go" type, just so I can pick up where I left off... LOL (and I kept my beer holders for just such an occasion too).

Re: 1967 Ford M151A1
Well, I just haven't had the time to do anything to/with it other then adjust the carb and choke, do a little work on the batteries " 1 of them has 4 dead cells and the other has 2 " but it will start with a jump, I gave it a test drive around the hood and found out that on the hardtop road it has a 1 wheel braking system ! The motor runs real good and the rear's sound OK, I think it needs a 3rd/4th gear synchronizer, Other then that I have been working on my Ranger, I was helping a friend move stuff out of storage and the rear brake line busted, it is a one piece line from the T block to up under the cab, about 8' long, so off with the bed and out with the gas tank! so I have been busy!!rickf wrote:Hillbilly? New 2 piece line and flex line.

Funds received, and CL listing deleted.
The gent who bought this ended up buying another one I was going to sell after completing a few more things it needed.
Now I am down to one, my keeper.
