Fake M151 for sale

Unread post by Vzike » August 27th, 2015, 5:29 pm

You are all going to love this one. Hemming Motor News is listing a very rare M151 listed for only $25,000. If this doesn't get your panties twisted, nothing will. Check it out!

http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dea ... 18350.html

As an Encore owner, I recognized it immediately. Not a bad Encore, but an Encore non the less!

"ONLY 5 OF THE 4X4 MODELS WERE RESTORED OUT OF THE 13 THAT MADE IT BACK STATE SIDE FROM VIETNAM. 2 OF THE 5 ARE HERE IN MONTANA AS THE MAN WHO WAS BEHIND THE COMPANY THAT RETORED THE MUTT's HAS A HOME HERE IN MONTANA."

Got to love that part. What a load of crap! Along with just about everything else in the description. Someone ought to contact Hemmings, I am sure they are not aware of what is being pushed through them. Unless they have changed over the years they would NEVER have let fakes through like that before. Especially blatant ones!

There is a "report this listing" at the bottom of the page, I will do so when I get home. I can't do it from work.

Is it just me, or does it really look ugly?

I like Encores, They are much better built than a M-151. BUT, Do not try to pas it off as a M-151 especially with a bunch of BS description to go with it and for an exorbitant price. The sad part is that someone that does not know will fall for it and then find out later they spent a lot of money for a fake. Happens all the time.

Just from the one picture, I could make a list of things as long as my arm that are wrong with it, and I'm just an amateur. What would more pictures reveal?

I drive either my Encore or my A2 daily.... depending on which side of the bed I get up on! In fact, I don't have another vehicle. People always look puzzled when they ask what year it is, and I say 1998 for the Encore.

So here is my question..... Encore called it an M151. What should it be called. Looks like a duck..... etc..... I normally go into a long explanation about it, but usually just say it is a military vehicle with an aftermarket 1998 body. Of course, mine is bright red, so no one figures it to be anything other than a stunted growth fire truck. Most ask what year my Willeys or jeep is? Of course, it is neither... so then.... what is it?

The encore tailgate and open back gets the beach and kayak duty! They only stick out 5 feet or so. Having a little trouble figuring out where to put they bikes for the Florida Keys annual trip!

Here is another one on sale at eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/M151-Extreme-/2 ... 1414691717

He is calling this an Extreme M151. He clearly states it is an Encore, but also says, "This is obviously an uncut M151 that is very solid".

According to the eBay add it has under 500 miles. Now, that being said, my Encore was made from take off M151 parts. Originally, it had an M151 engine block, with a new style head. One differential was an 875 part number, and the other a 116, so clearly these are parts cars. My Florida title lists it as a "kit car".

My Encore has two after market parts. The tub, and the hood (which is fiberglass).

That looks more like a Titan. Square cut front fenders and no footwell cutout. And it is in Texas where the Titan was made.
