WTB - Navy M151A2 Dataplate

Unread post by artillerydan » July 7th, 2016, 3:21 pm

Want to buy a Navy M151A2 data plate. Obviously a few Navy A2s have been demilled over the years. Looking for the large Brass Navy plate or both that went on the dash.

THANKS!

The Navy usually got them from the Army or Marines. Too the best of my knowledge they were never issued directly to the Navy.

Here is an example if you have never seen one.

Also looking for the correct paint color used on seabees gear. From what I have seen they used this gloss / semi gloss green from the Vietnam era to at least the 90s

Dan,

Check this guy out http://www.ebay.com/itm/U-S-DEPARTMENT- ... 1333001211
He does offer etched brass data plates for other vehicles, so should be able to make a run.

Live and learn, and I even posted on that thread so that shows where my memory is. I still think the damn Seabee's stole them and forged the plates.

Well I am back on the M151A2 kick so to speak. I was wanting to build a M151A2 Seabee's jeep with a PRC47 radio installed. I have the PRC47 and related kit to install in an M151. The main users of the PRC47 were the Navy and USMC. I owned a Seabees M756A2 pipeline construction truck many years back and always thought that the history of the Seabees does not get much play. Soooooo building a nice Seabee's radio jeep just fit into my overall plan of multiple M151A2's in different configurations and colors. I have only seen 4 of them... 2 were crushed, one was demilled by "lightly" crushing it and the other at Tankland in California that is nice and complete. I was hoping to find an original dataplate that way I did not "make up" any numbers. Also trying to find the correct color for Seabee's equipment. Everything I have seen is a gloss or semi gloss

This is the color I am talking about. This is the best UNFADED vehicle I could find.....at least the door...

The Navy, Coast Guard & Air Force was never issued a Tactical type vehicle. The Navy, Coast Guard & Air Force bought vehicles from the civilian market. However if the Navy, Coast Guard needed a tactical vehicle they got it from the USMC inventory and the same with the Air Force but from the Army inventory. Though rare they do exist and to find one is like finding a needle in a hay stack.
The Navy, Coast Guard & Air Force did reserial the MFR number. They would add USN, USCG & USAF in front of the USMC & Army serial number with a dash or a slash mark that was originally issued by the MFR. By all means if one wants to honor a vehicle for the Navy, Coast Guard & Air Force for whatever reason then do it.
