Re: Hubs That Accept Tie Downs ??
My guess is you're think about this???
(I parked next to it at the Dayton show. Ain't it cute??)
When I drive out to the test track and go over the bridge, I drive right over the spot where they did the crazy roll-over testing - and I imagine the arm of the dummy driver bouncing along the ground....
(Sort of weird, but that's just the way I is...)
My guess is this is not going to go well...
Well, there goes my arm...

Re: Hubs That Accept Tie Downs ??
This is what I was thinking was very early hubs, but why would they be so available on the market today as replacements? I wonder which wheel studs are in the ones for sale now? Early or late.

Re: Hubs That Accept Tie Downs ??
Enough guessing already ! Here's the story / history lesson.
It's 1960 and the first batch of Ford-built M151 vehicles from contract DA20-118-ORD-21125 start arriving at using units. These completely new-design vehicles have had the most leisurely development of any tactical truck, starting in 1952 and completed in 1959. Unfortunately, leisurely does not always equate to thorough. It would eventually take the military ten years to admit that vehicle evaluation by skilled test drivers does not always result in the same experience when the same vehicle is driven by a conscripted 19-year-old who had driven a hotrod or woody back home. But that's another story.
As the novelty of the new M151 faded, reports started to arrive at Ordnance/TACOM describing suggested improvements in addition to complaints about the vehicle. One of these EIRs (equipment improvement reports) complained about the M151's lack of adequate airdrop lifting points, with the themes of air assault and vertical envelopment being "the way forward" for the army at the start of the 1960s.
We can only guess that other EIRs suggested that a better system of tiedown was needed in addition to the existing front and rear shackles. The response by OTAC came in the shape of a modification order.
On Tuesday 28-November-1961, MWO9-2320-218-20/5 was issued to all active army units (but not to USAF, USMC nor USAR). The MWO was classified as "URGENT" and was to be applied to all vehicles issued under the 21125 contract and about half of the second Ford contract, 23240.
Not surprisingly, priority for the issue of MWO kits was given to Fort Campbell (500 kits) as well as 500 kits to Fort Bragg, with a further 500+ kits to Bragg soon after.
The MWO kit featured a new hub/spindle part no.10885122 along with a lifting/tiedown eye with lockwasher. The old hub/spindle, part no.8754387 as well as the hub-cap (part no.8754441) were to be removed and discarded. When the modification was completed, units were required to complete DA Form 2170 and return it to the commanding general, Ordnance Tank-Automotive Command (OTAC) in Michigan.
So, EP, you now have probably the only full set of unthreaded, early M151 hub spindles in existence. That's why I advised you not to be hasty in throwing them away !
But it still leaves us with a mystery.
1. Why were they not sent to DRMO scrap as instructed?
2. How did they end up on your A1?
3. Do the front and rear suspension units on your A1 actually belong to a 1960/61 Ford-built M151?
That's it, gang. Hope it was worth the wait.

AND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You do not address the fact that they are selling non-threaded hubs, NOS, right now. And are they 151/A1 hubs or are they A2 hubs?
