Hubs That Accept Tie Downs ??

Unread post by Elvis Presley » July 30th, 2016, 9:19 pm

Purchased some hub rings a long time ago and have never attempted to put them on until now. Herein comes yet another "What the ....??" moment when I realize the spindles I have include no threads for the little fellas?? How about that....

So, a two parter emerges:

1. Should I just leave these stupid things on there? (There is no issue other than they can use some new grease...)
2. OR, should I start looking for some spindles with threads??? (I do think it would look cooler with the hub rings on there.)

Just wondering if anyone has some used (or new) spindles available?

(I just hit Ebay and there's a guy with used ones for 15.00 each (plus 13 something shipping) that does sounds pretty good... (QTM Jeep parts) )

Thanks!!

Have a nice day!

So if you do not have threads and the choices were only the Marine square hubs or the tie down hubs, both of which are threaded then what is on yours?

Something with no threads at all ???

As far as I can tell, they have no threads and they are certainly not the square looking Marine things.

Perhaps some spindles off of something else??

Now that would be a new one, either has to screw in or knock in?? Have a pic? Didn't see the $15 spindles on QTP, that would a good deal, are you talking about the yoke or spindles? the hub caps screw into the spindle, the yoke is what the spindle bolts to.

Well, I guess they are Spindles - P/N 11644854 (2530-00-176-3337). They are clearly the versions without the threads. Is that the only difference between the Marine version and the Army version?? If so, then these must be the Marine version. Maybe I should just find the Marine lifting eyes??? All the pics of Marine MUTTs the eyes look the same from the outside???

Okay - so does anyone have any Marine specific lifting eyes ???

The hub caps have the same threads whether they are marine or the tie down type, I can post pic of both tomorrow if needed, I have a hub torn apart as we speak.

Don't throw away those spindles and dust caps just yet. Can you post a picture of the spindle & cap on here? Or send me a pic directly and I'll post it for you.

When I see the picture I may be able to tell you more about what you have.

Interesting, I looked it up as a replacement hub but I will let Ken follow through with this since he probably has more info on it.

Here's some pics:
Image
- Really nasty and no threads !!

Image
-Even WITH threads there is no way they are going on as the diameter is too small !!!

Image
A regular old auto type cover fits right in that diameter...

Image

Here's an image I snagged from Ebay - A LOT of threads on these !!!

I have come to expect the unexpected on this thing!! If bailing wire had an NSN number, it would be all over this thing!!!
(I still love her !!!)
