Engine data plate

Unread post by Bart1015 » December 8th, 2016, 11:50 am

Hallo all,

I have a 1967A1 that I have restored to "motor pool" class. I have a new A2 replacement engine that is from 1983 and I would like to swap the data plate on the new engine to one that would have been in the jeep during its service time (1967 to about 1975).

Does anyone have an old plate they would like to sell?

IF not, I have seen the blank plates listed for sale and I could have it marked correctly. Trouble is, I have no idea what the contract number should be. Is there a contract number list available?

Thanks

Brett

Brett, I can't help you with an old plate but if no-one else has one and you decide to go down the route of a blank plate, let me know and I'll advise re the Contract details appropriate to the age of your vehicle.

A motor pool restoration would be perfectly accurate with a later motor. Hell, they changed the motors in these things just to change the oil! "Just put in a new motor, don't waste the oil."

Thank you Ken. I may end up going that route. Ill give it a few days to see if I can get one here. If not, Ill order a new plate.

Rick, I do agree with you. I got dinged points at a show because the engine and temp gauge currently installed was to new for the jeep to be still in service. I will end up with the same result with my new engine. I found a working "correct" temp gauge and its also ready to be installed.

I understand the theory behind the Judge's decision and it will be easy enough to swap plates, then focus on other small stuff.

You know the jeep is never "done". I am now just working on the bits and pieces to complete the puzzle.

I do have an A2 windshield on it now, has anyone ever seen an A2 on a A1 in service? I really like the single glass and electric wipers and would like to keep them if possible.

Bart, there's no reason why you can't. Use of A2 windshields on earlier models was officially authorized in 1986.

Of coarse in 86 there technically would not have been any 69 or older 151's still in service. Ten years and out.
