Shout out to bazookajoe - I put some new gas in the tank this evening and it fired right up! I hadn't run the MUTT since Mar/Apr and thought that the batteries might not be strong enough, but it turned over right away, unlike before where it took at least the max 10-second start and sometimes wanted to stall out and had to really fool around with the choke. I put in a see through fuel filter [bazookajoe had installed a high-quality metal filter for me] in case there was some sediment/debris that was in the fuel pump and I could be sure there was no fuel restriction, and it looks really clean. I might wrap some tape around the temporary vent fitting from the manifold until I get the correct one and change it out. This weekend I might get it out and about and make sure there aren't any show stoppers and get it inspected next week so I can take those long drives.

Running without that vacuum line hooked up means no ventilation for the distributor. The ventilation provides minimal cooling for the coil but the most important part is that it removes the ozone produced by the high voltage arcs in the cap. If the ozone is left in there it will corrode the internals.
The fitting you are looking for should be a male pipe thread to a female inverted flare if I remember correctly.

Hi Rick,
Thanks - good info, that's why I didn't fire it up until I got a temporary fitting in the manifold. Right now there is a good friction fit between the two components, how long it was off I couldn't tell you because there was a male square plug in the manifold and I didn't pay attention to the vent lines because I didn't see any obvious breaks or lines missing, for example, the line to the master brake cylinder with the fording option. I removed the manual ball cock for the wipers, I'm not even sure why the PO did that since there is a manual shut off for the wipers on the dash panel that was present and functional. With the carb serviced, the tank de-rusted, sealed, and vent line connected, it fired right up unlike before cranking and cranking, when I ran the engine, I smelled something like melted plastic, but could not find the source.

When I get some time, I will look into the distributor and check it out to see the condition of the interior. The PO gave me a few extras to include 2 coils, but they were all used/TO, so if anything I might have good serviceable cores for a start. The fitting that seems to fit the manifold on this engine is 1/8" x 1/4" but the end was too wide, so I put in that sleeve for a temporary fix. I am going to look for some shrink tubing as a better alternative to tape.

Take out coils are generally better than the new Chinese ones. As long as you have some air moving through there you are good. If you take the cap off and everything is green and fuzzy you will know why.

I opened up the top of the distributor and it looks clean, it's a new distributor with a regular rotor, I was hoping that it had the upgraded electronic ignition in it. The line coming from the distributor was a little loose, but I tightened up all of the connections.
