Differential Mounting Bolts Wanted

Unread post by m75 » June 19th, 2018, 7:42 pm

Looking to replace the rusted Grade 8 bolts and flange nuts for both front and rear differential. Two different lengths for the front, and I could not decipher the -20P listing for length on the rear, but they are all three the same length. Although I tried to clean up the current ones, most are pitted by rust, and being differential mounting bolts, I don't want something weaker than what should be there.

I don't think those are grade 8, and they lack the fine thread. (7/16x20 UNF). And besides, there is no availability....... not in store stock, (local or other area locations) and not available to have shipped, per Lowes.

Specs tab says Grade 8, fine thread, and available for delivery to me at 0.59 cents a piece. ??? Again, they are just using a generic picture...

34P has part numbers. Look them up and call Red River.

Nahhh, Red River couldn't help. Not one of the parts, but I'm finding that to be a common thread about these particular items. I did locate a supplier of fasteners close to the Hollywood area that supplies the production companies with a lot of their needs. Fresh, grade 8, yellow zinc, enough cap screws, nuts and washers to do both differentials for ten dollars American!!

Shame of it is, there is a manufacturer of MS fasteners, all types, about three miles from my house. No retail sales, and the possible closest supplier is 45 miles away. C'mon guys, just let me wander the warehouse aisles while you're enjoying my pizza and beer....

I just noticed that the one I referred you to they only have the one bolt in a flange head 7/16 grade 8 fine thread and it is only 1 inch long. You are probably going to have to go with standard head and washer with lock-tite. I may have those bolts used since I have buckets of military bolts.

Here are the standard head bolts, it is odd that although they carry the military grade extreme grade they do not have them in 7/16.

Here are the mil spec washers but I would just go to Tractor supply and pick up grade eight or grade five washers and some blue Lock-tite.
