Unread post by cstaup » December 19th, 2007, 10:15 pm

Where does one find these? Truck Stops? I really dont need any yet , as I'm in the process of "retaping" and repairing the harnesses (A1), but I'll need 'em soon enough.

The light bulbs can be had from some parts stores. But if they have to order them for you, they will most likely make you take the whole box of 10. Personally I like to get them from one of the military vehicle parts vendors, as the genuine milspec bulbs have a stainless steel base, while the civilian ones from the parts store have a brass base which is more likely to corrode. Whatever you use, smear the base with electrical grease before installing.

Make sure they are right stock numbers. I bought some dash bulbs from a supply dealer. I didn't think to compare the numbers. Sometime later, I went for a drive and after a bit started to smell something, I drove back home to investigate and my dash bulb lens were molten and protruding out of the dash. Remember those black pellets your kids bought for the Fourth of July, once you lit them they grew into "snakes" that's what it reminded me of. After checking the bulbs I found the wattage was way too high.

NAPA Lights

NAPA numbers:

1662(IMP) (Stop & Turn) This is the most used bulb in the 24v system. Cost is around $9.99 each.
1683 (front / rear stop & turn signal) (might be single filament, check this)
1251(front / rear black out)
623 (front parking/ rear)
4863 (headlight)
1829 (dash panel) Wagner #1829, Wagner #356 brighter, can also use Wagner #313 or 1819
