Depends on the year, very early was a piece of welting on a metal bracket. 1964 or so it was changed to two square bumpers and then it went to round bumpers on the A2. The square ones on the A1's were the same as the pedal snubbers.

If you turn yourself into a pretzel, (good practice for a master cylinder replacement) look up at the pedal arms and you will see stops that limit how far up the brake and clutch pedals can go. Those are the snubbers.

Is there a source for the early bumpers with the metal bracket and welting? Thats the windshield I have on mine.

The welting is available, I think if you check on the 503 WWII pages. The brackets are probably would have to be made.

I had to fab up a set of those brackets for my windshield and it wasn't difficult at all. The welting material that is on them (use a pop rivet gun to attach)is the same as what's on the grill. You can order that material from Snyder's antique auto parts. Do a search in the mutt forums of g503 for "buggyman" and "radiator welting." As I've alread been down this road.

Cool man, thanks. I take it the beading on the welting prevents the rivets from digging into the paint? The brackets look like a simple fab, i'll use my handy little bench top sheet metal brake for them. Is this the same welting on the grill? I'm sure I can use it, IIRC the welting that's on my grill is flat with no beading though, more of a nylon material than a canvas and I need grill welting too as I'll be media blasting and metal finishing my grill.

This is the stuff I found with your part # u mentioned on the 503.

Did you have measurements to fabricate your bumpers or did you just go off this picture? Thanks again, one less thing to research and one more thing to fix, it's never ending..

MCM
You are correct. The beading on the welting prevents the rivets from digging into the paint on your hood. When I attached mine, I riveted from the front through the welting into the bracket. That way, when I broke off the stem, it was neat (finished looking) and below the level of the beading.

The welting we're discussing here is the same thing that was originally on my grill so when the time came, I just replaced it with the new stuff from Snyder's.

As for the bracket, I had 1) original one on the truck (the other one was missing) so I used that as a pattern and fabricated the other out of flat stock. I used the original and the mounting holes on the windshield frame as a pattern.

Just went out and checked the shop. I have about 4 1/2 feet of that welting out there. Why don't you P.M. me a snail mail address and I'll mail you a foot of it? That should easily "cover" your bump stop needs.

Im cofused as to were this goes. I have a jan 67 so that makes mine a 66 model most likely. are these brackets for an a2? Because i dont have any holes that would even match up to that on my hood or grill.

those brackets were for the early mutts, before they went to rubber snubbers/bumpers...

My truck was a February 1967 DoD but it had a lot of "odd" features. It should have had the grill with the rubber bumpers not the welting (or so I was told) and it's windshield frame should have also had the little rubber bumpstops not the early style welting/bracket combo. I had two windshield frames for that truck and both had the brackets on them.

Correct me if I'm wrong here guys, but wasn't the M151A1 broken down into two groups? An early and a late production batch?
