ROPS kit (located)

Unread post by Bart1015 » June 3rd, 2015, 10:32 am

Hello,
I am looking for a ROPS kit for my "new to me" MUTT. I am hoping someone has a take out unit available. I live in Northern California and I am willing to pick up just about anywhere north of Bakersfield and south of Oregon. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

you might check with Chuck at surplus city in oroville. i got rid of mine there some time ago, and i bet he still has it. there not exactly a fast moving, wanted item. all the parts were there, including the feet, but the padding was shot.

if your M151 doesn't have a ROPs you may be better offer trading for a M151 with a ROPs. they say adding a ROPS devalues the jeep. I added one in a jeep that didnt have one .. Everyone told me dont do it but I didnt listen. If I had it to do over. I would not add it. That jeep has long been gone.

Thanks for the info Eddie. My MUTT is uncut and rust free, I would hate to trade it or sell it. I want the ROPS kit because I drive my small Kiddos around weekly and I want the extra protection. I know people do not like them but I just want the added security. If I decide in the future to remove it, I would weld up the holes ect.

Try to find a Canadian ROPS. They did not cut big holes in the rear fender tops and used a set up similar to the CJ Jeeps.

Have a Canadian A2 that had their ROPS installed on it.
It was surface monted with large feet and no large holes cut out.
A much simpler design.
Check around with our Canadian buddies.
Maybe one wlll chime in with more info.

Send me an email address and i can show you the minimal damage that was sustained using the Canadian ROPS.
Contact Scott Bentley , armybuck041 . He is in the CAnadian Army and a Mutt lover.
Maybe he can help

Or you could always modify an American one. All you would have to do is cut the rear legs off flush minus the thickness of a steel plate and bolt the plate to the fender with backers, weld the ROPS legs to the plate. No big holes that way. All the rest of the leg mounts are just a lot of bolt holes.

Try Steve Owens at Owens Export in CA, he may have what you need, good source for those on the WC.

If you have not found one. I am just starting to clean out all extra parts from my A2 restoration. I know that I have a ROPS that was not installed. I will check later if you need one. I know it is missing the padding, nets and hardware for sure. Not sure if the belts are there. Text me if you still need. I am down in Goleta about 5hrs south of you.
