Wanted - STD Size Piston Rings

Unread post by lpcoating » March 11th, 2016, 9:04 pm

Looking for STD size piston rings for my A1. E-bay's are oversize, checked with Blake, Bernie and TNJ's site and have not found any yet. Anyone have a set?

Guy, you can use Chevy 1960's 6cyl 250 rings, this is from our Wiki.

12. PISTON RINGS

Perfect Circle Chevrolet 250
Ring Diameter 3 7/8 x 3/32 when ordering rings from Otto Gas Engine Works

Thanks Dan - reading is very educational! Didn't even think about looking there. Hey, I just make sheet metal!

Don't let him get a big head, I am pretty sure it was me that turned him on to Otto Gas engine works. And it was Bernie that turned me onto them, they have a antique engine show at their farm every year the week after Gilbert I think it is. That is why I am wondering why Bernie didn't mention them.

Hold on a minute, fellas, I seem to remember that someone posted a note saying that "Perfect Circle" rings did not fit. I had them listed in my own parts cross-reference and subsequently I deleted that reference. I was told the recommended replacement is as follows:-

ENGINE
1. PISTON RINGS:
Hastings 2C 6353 (Hastingsmfg.com).
Cylinder bore (STD) = 3.875" (98.425mm)
Oil control rings (set of 4) 3/16" width
Compression rings (set of 8 ) 3/32" width

I have not had the opportunity to verify what I was told, so I'd advise caution and further checking before purchasing either version.
Ken
Kind regards....
Ken

Always wanted - Details and pictures of M416 Trailer data plates & M151 data plates & body-tags for my research. Thanks!

Ken, you may be right on the Perfect Circle rings, I'll try to find the box I have with the 2 left over set's in it to see what brand they are, I used the 6cyl Chev, rings on mine when I had to take it to .020 oversize,
they fit and worked fine so far. I'll let you know the brand as soon as I find the box.

Otto supplies rings by size and not application so you need to have the piston diameter, the ring width for both compression rings and the oil control rings. No matter what it is always prudent to check end gap with the rings centered in the cylinder and make sure they are to spec. If they are too close you could end up with scored cylinders and broken rings. To loose and you loose compression and get blowby.
