Hey Ralph,
It that toptiger's POV in the middle there, or yours? Yes, we all see the siren on the 151 front fender. I say again that at least stateside, it was common to find them under the hood. M38A1's in my experience were however commonly mounted on the front bumper. :D Earlier sirens were a little smaller than the more modern big heavy mohunkers used in the 70's.

I believe it was for the "Army show and tell story time" , and flashing lights, made the impression they were out to get you.....( it took the Shore Patrol to try and catch us ) .I think under the hood looks better and less chance of it being stolen. Nice picture. Seabee

Yeah but if the siren's that heavy, you may want to steel the jeep to carry it...

Well David, if you're offering to by me an M113A1 hull, then I'll get started right away  :D . You probably won't see to many repros of that version as (M113A1) APC hulls are quite rare and very expensive. According to my source (Ralph), That variant was the apex of the gun truck concept. Think about it: if the truck gets heavily damaged/destroyed or worn out, just remove the "pod' from the bed and drop it into a new truck.

Afterthought: Seeing how it doesn't have to move under it's own power (the APC hull, that is) You could probably fabricate up a dummy hull and set it in the bed of a LWB 5 ton cargo. The M113 doesn't have any concave angles so it shouldn't be that hard to do.

Im well aware of how rare they are and how much the govt doesnt want people to have them.

As for someone making one up. I have access to a 113 and can get anyone measurements and photos. Like you said, they're not that difficult shapes wise. If people can build Panzer IIIs and other german tanks out of running gear and metal, surely some one can build a M113 look a like box/hull.

Id do it; but I dont have the time, money, and experience with metal.

David
You're right about that. For me, I've got too many irons in the fire. Time, I've actually got but extra money, for such a project is in short supply currently.

You might want to build it out of thinner steel than the originals, I understand they were a little unstable and very slow due to the weight and the high center of gravity. I am thinking 16 gauge sheet metal over plywood.

I don't know what M113 hulls were made out of, but the M114 was an aluminum alloy. This M114 was taken out of a creek on a firing range as "range refuge", and jumping through a lot of hoops, and months of paperwork.

The M113's were also an Alumium alloy. I was the maintance 113 driver in Germany and at Ft. Carson Colorado in the 60's. :)
