Thanks for sharing. You don't see a lot of pictures from the earlier wars. I am sure a lot of the reason was point and shoot cameras did not exist. I had a manuscript for a book from my father in law that he wrote about his experiences in Patton's infantry in WWII. Unfortunately my sister in law took it under the guise of getting it published and I have not seen it since. She is totally anti war and anything military so I am guessing the manuscript was thrown out. I certainly hope not but......................

What happened to Halftracks Dad's picture.. .....or was I seeing things? "tank destroyer unit"?..

mrdibbles , I was in TX last week and went to a Cop Shop Gun store in Austin as I was driving and I saw a taco shop with a Marque sign I looked at it and looked and looked... it now dawns on me.... your Avitar..

Nice.. any way now that I have put 1 and 1 together..
while i was there I scoped ( parked in garage, door open) out an M151a2 in Harker Heights. was running and an old man had it.. with interest in selling.(unadvertised). but never named a price... only that he paid $3500 back 15 years ago.
I snapped some pictures.. it had lots of patches on it.. I took it for a drive was all good to go.. stalled at idol after warm up.. no data plate or title. :( but had an old inspection sticker on the window..gotta love the entrenching tool on the side..
picture wont load..
I will ad one another time....
added some of them to my photo album... check it out there. just couldnt get my picture host to work today. I will start a post in another thread.. called " Harker Heights jeep "

Thanks for posting the photos of your Dad. A good thing to remind us of the sacrifices made by another generation.
My Dad was a pilot in WW2, too.
The aircraft in the background is a C-46 Curtis Commando, a much better and larger aircraft than the Douglas C-47 DC-3. It doesn't get the respect it deserves.

What is blanked out on either side of the cockpit in that photo? I am assuming it was classified at the time.

JP: Super picture of a super aircraft, thanks. It looks like an early A model with the four bladed Curtis Electric prop. They had problems with those and was probably the reason they elected to switch to the three bladed propellers.

Top, I’m surprised you didn’t see any on your tour of SEA. Our friends at the CIA used a number of them in that operation.

Thanks again JP.

Never saw one over there. My base at Bien Hoa was not used by air america. On occasion we would encounter them at remote refuel rearm points.
Their Hueys were silver. I recall seeing some unusual a/c they flew, mostly STOL stuff like that unusual Dornier with twin engines sticking out of the fuselage, pilatus turbo porters, etc.
Rick, there should not have been much worth censoring on the fuselage but perhaps some HF antennae prototype. The C -46 wasn't restricted,or exotically secret that I know of.
