Spotted Vet & his Helo

Unread post by sarmadq » April 6th, 2011, 3:03 pm

My brother sent me this picture that he took while driving from Orlando to Fort Leavenworth. This was taken somewhere close to Alabama. Any takers :?: The tail marking is NAVY 8433 and the trailer bears a plate 9107 VZ, can't read the state.

That's a very cool picture. Thanks for posting. I think I would have slowed and driven next to it too. I mean how many of us have driven next to a Huey in motion?

There are two of them that make the show circuit every year. I do not remember names but one of the guys was at Aberdeen last year. I know they had to get special permission to rebuild the choppers to that point. They are not flyable.

We have a UH-1H painted in Air Cav markings at our museum that is mounted on a trailer. We had to get special permission from TACOM to do this. We use it as an outreach program for the museum along with my M151A2 and the museums M35 Gun Truck.

Driving down the road is a lot of fun, people get real excited, take pictures with their cell phones and we get a lot of approving waves and salutes.

Turning corners with the tail boom sticking out so far requires a little thought, we usually have a vehicle running behind with a yellow beacon light mounted to help keep the move safe.

Matter of fact, we are taking the Huey to El Dorado this Friday night!
