Re: A Couple of Jeeps in Vietnam
I currently have an M4 mounted in my A2.
The location was the usual spot where the underneath support brackets are located and the holes had been drilled long ago. I fully expected elbow bruising and neck strain looking around it from where it sits.
Much to my surprise it doesn't get in the way of my shifting at all or obscure much of my view to the right. What i do notice is the yoke mount blocking the rear view mirror.
I don't notice that issue when the windshield is folded down, which for me is most of the time. I also only use the driver's side recoil leg as I don't really need it for actual recoil and rear seat passengers can still get in and out easily. At least as easy to get in and out of as it is normally

He has been rather quiet about that subject lately.

Re: A Couple of Jeeps in Vietnam
The holes for mounting an M4 pedestal in my M151 were already there. There are some reinforcements underneath the rear floor, that have a hole pre-punched into them. All you have do do is drill through the floor up from the bottom, thru the centers of these, and you have the mounting holes for the support legs located. The support legs will locate where the rest of the holes need to be drilled for the base, if you then just assemble the mast onto the base and then stick some bolts though some holes and then mark a few others.... Piece of cake. I used to have dozens of M4 pedestal mounts all in the crates with instructions and mounting hardware. There was a time when surplus dealers were almost giving them away...compared to what they are going for now.
Don't ask Rainman got the last I had.

Re: A Couple of Jeeps in Vietnam
Good information here. It was funny as just a month ago I was at Army Jeep Parts and I was discussing the M4 mount with George and I told him to take a look at every pic you can find of the M151 in Vietnam and look at the gun mount and note its location.
I had a bunch of Vietnam Vets tell me that mine was in the wrong place and I said that cant be as its a M4 mount in the factory location. He laughed and spun my M-60 around and said "Where is he standing now?" I went home and started looking and sure enough, out of all of them, I only found 2 that were M-4 mounts and those were on a MP jeep in Qui Nhon! (this unit also had A2's in Vietnam) All the time I looked, it was just a piece of pipe welded to the floor. I pulled my M4 mount 2 weeks later.

What kind of A2 is that? Is it an Encore build? Maybe a custom front fender? The area around the front amber lights isn't rounded like most.Rainman wrote:I currently have an M4 mounted in my A2.

Re: A Couple of Jeeps in Vietnam
Looking through these photos, the armored gun MUTT has M73 Machineguns mounted. First I have ever seen on a MUTT. These were used in armor vehicles such as the V-100's. They had a high rate of fire, but had to be headspaced exactly right or would not be reliable.
