I just pulled this off a friends FaceBook page. It was taken at Cp. Williams, UT and about 200 yards from the M718A1 and UH1 on display that I have posed before.
Looks like the FAV is making a come-back.
Did I retire too soon?

Re: Did I retire too soon?
They look pretty cool, FM. Not quite as "dune buggy-ish" as the original FAVs. Couple of observations
1) Wonder how many will they procure with the looming budget cuts the Military is going to have in the near future?
2) Would be interesting to find out just what they are? Off the shelf tech or something completely custom?
3) I understand/assume that those machines are (probably) parked a safe distance from the CH-47 but I still don't think I'd want to be sitting on top of the vehicle like that, especially when the other guy is dropped to one knee.
4) Wonder if any will ever make it to the surplus market? Was surprised to see Diesel Pinzgauers(718) on GL w/o a demil requirement. They went for big bucks.....
5) Heard it throught the grape vine that yes, FM they did wait until you retired before bringing out all of the cool stuff .

Re: Did I retire too soon?
I guess I didn't take enough time looking at that pic before I posted it. The UH-1 is visible just off the tail ramp of the CH-47 and that buggy is obviously a HMMWV chassis. You can see the same tail lights and dash.
They are pretty close. That's a soccer field they're landing on. The pavement in the foreground is a 1/4 mile track, and the photo is taken either from a porch or in between more buildings. A mighty tight fit for a CH-47. I've never seen them land anything there before especially when there's a much larger parade field just across the road to the East.

Yeah now that you pointed it out, I can see the UH-1 in the distant backround. I also noticed that those FAVs bore a resemblence to the HMMWV but was thinking that was the manufacture's inspiration kind of like how a HMMWV looks like a bigger M151A2..... You're right that is a tight fit for the CH-47 and I wonder why they choose that spot. It is also a great photo of a CH-47 as well.

Re: Did I retire too soon?
they look significant narrower than a HMMWV. So that they fit in a CH-53 or CH-47 ?

They certainly do. And that's probably the reason.Horst wrote:they look significant narrower than a HMMWV. So that they fit in a CH-53 or CH-47 ?
