Family Affairs

Unread post by richard » August 10th, 2012, 7:06 am

Picked up my addition last Saturday. Made it well on 250 miles from Southern Germany to the North. One more US truck in the area of Landys (aka Land Rover). :D

Went to MOT on Monday and the 1964 truck has no major issues. Have to repair the front axle boots and two seals at the rear. After this repair it will get the title and licence plate for historical vehicles.

The paint is very old and there is some rust - shall I try MERDC?

You and Horst are becoming twins! I would imagine filling and keeping the tank filled on that beast over there is rather expensive!

Fuel is cheap - taxes on fuel are high. :( Here we have to pay a double tax. The formula is this: (fuel + petroleum tax) + VAT 19 %. Petroleum tax for diesel is static, 47 Euro Cent per liter.

Basically the same thing here, the fuel itself is cheap. It is the tax's that kill you.

No, the Deuce was on Army Inserate 1st quarter 2012. I had a look on it in April, purchased it in May, picked it up in August - I need vacation (or retirement) ... :D

The Deuce has changed the outfit a little bit.

Restoration is in process and I hope I've finished the tear down before it is to cold for working in the hallway. Today we had 24°C (76° F) - summer is back in Northern Germany.

That isn't oil next to the diff, it is brake fluid (different parking position). Have to check the lines between master and brake assist. There is a leak but first I've to clean everything around there to see from where it is exactly coming.

The frame is in excellent condition, no holes, no rust. Other parts are having more problems, well known to other Deuce drivers.

Sorry, have no pictures from the inside of the S-280 shelter at the moment. In it there is nothing from the US Army. But I have a complete working SEM 25 and SEM35 radio installation in it.

The box on the left is just for storage, a Zarges box made of aluminium. The box on the right is for drinking water, but it does not go inside of the shelter. It is more a "take a shower outside" installation. :D

I think it's time to convert to multi-fuel and start making homemade biodiesel.
