I see so many of those half doors that I swear there must have been a kit for them. They do not look like the plywood version.

Yes, those were plywood, made in the motorpool, don't remember which echlon did it tho. Not all of our's had them, mostly only ones that were used for actual M.P. patrol, our jeeps used for mainly field duty didn't have them.rickf wrote:I see so many of those half doors that I swear there must have been a kit for them. WOW, plywood huh... I think I would like to try that some day, heck that looks good and it seems to work fine. Just make a cardboard template and then make a door, and I am sure I could find something to make a door handle & hinges with too.
"Great pics" and thanks for sharing them.

Re: M151 in Germany in 63
There is a pic called "naplesjeep1" on the usmilitaria forum (a round fender jeep) that looks like it may have a complete wooden top and door set. I know it aint 151 related really but man that there picture just looks great, and whoever made that top and doors put a lot of work into it. I haven't ever seen another like that anywhere, ever, so it's possible its all hand made by a very meticulous person. I don't have the exact link to the photo, but if you google naplesjeep1 I bet that pic will be on the list, it's one of a kind I think... kind of cool if a 151 was done that way, I think it would be a real head turner... just sayin...

I think you will find Mr. Recovery may have some first hand experience with those doors. Elasser, A Co. Motor pool seems to be a bit run down in that pic.

Hey HillBilly: Would this be the jeep you are talking about?
Caption states: My dad was a AAF pilot assigned to a base in Naples from 45-47. He made these modifications to his jeep so my (future) mom wouldn't get dust and dirt on her. Also, it helped to keep thieves at bay.

Re: M151 in Germany in 63
I have made and installed a few sets when I was in Germany in the early 60's, when "if" I get mine finished I will make a set for it as it will be marked the same as the one in my first photo.rickf wrote:I think you will find Mr. Recovery may have some first hand experience with those doors.
