New BIG toy

Unread post by MUTT_KAHUNA ED » September 22nd, 2014, 12:35 pm

Well I couldnt let my old 1966 5 ton M54 get lonely so I brought home a 1984 M923A1 5 ton cargo truck....WOW..what a difference in driving quality/comfort...took the truck to her first show; the Iron nation mc 'Never forget' 9/11 mc run/show....our MV group had 2 mc's and a mixed bunch of military vehicles. When I'd drive on I-80 with the M151A2 I constantly fought the 'road groove',fed ex and ups trucks hauling triples....with the M923 It was great being the same size as over the road trucks!

She's a big, beautiful girl!

Nice going.

I do not have the cajones to take my M151A2 on the interstate!

New BIG toy

Unread post by Horst » September 22nd, 2014, 4:14 pm

Hey Ed,

Great truck! Plenty of them also available over here but I did not have the balls yet to pull the trigger. Guess M35 was already too big for me. Enjoy!!!

And you are right. Driving the deuce on the Autobahn was much more relaxing than taking the jeep.

I almost had one but then I realized that even a lug nut weighed as much as me and I am not as young as I once was. If I can't work on it myself then I can't afford to have it.
Horst, I figured we wouldn't be hearing from you for another couple weeks. Oktoberfest in Munich isn't it?

Thats where the M151 has the M923 beat....I put the cargo cover on the beast by myself got covered in dust/dirt...I struggled for 45 or so minutes got it secured and discovered it was backwards! ...routine maint is ok..just need MUCH bigger catch cans for oil etc...it took just under 7 gallons of 15w-40!....for flat repair I have 'Les schwab' tires on speed dial!

Occasionally, I think about getting a 5 ton (900 series) as they seem to be the "deal" lately in tactical trucks. I've never acted on those urges mostly because of the vehicle's size. I think it might be problematic manuvering such a large beast down some of the side streets in the 'Burg I live in. Still, there is something very cool about those big green behemouths...... I guess if I have any questions about them I'll PM MUTT_KAHUNA......
