Re: M718 ambulance in country
I thought the Marines were the only branch that put the tie downs on the rear quarters or was this common to the 718's regardless of branch? The two gentlemen standing there look to fresh and one of them has an M16 with a tag hanging on it. The fact there are no litters installed, would this have been used as a transport for those who recovered from their wounds and were transported back to there units? Would this be a staging area for returning soldiers to get a weapon reissued?
Re: M718 ambulance in country
That would be violation of the Geneva convention I believe. Transporting combat ready troops in a vehicle marked as an ambulance.

Re: M718 ambulance in country
Cobra, the M718s all had those brackets fitted. They were officially for heli-lifting, not for tiedown.....the reason they were fitted to all M718s was that the body extension at the rear precluded the use of the original lifting eye located at each bumperette. The Marines realised that the M718 brackets were a good idea and added them to most of their M151A1 fleet.Cobra5 wrote:I thought the Marines were the only branch that put the tie downs on the rear quarters or was this common to the 718's regardless of branch?
The M718A1 versions had bolt-on lifting eyes with a cleat base, like the standard A2 vehicle.

Re: M718 ambulance in country
Does being underwater in a rice paddy or swamp or stream every hour constitute cleaning?

Re: M718 ambulance in country
Only if they are armed. They just look too clean and possibly in a line to get reissued equipment. Just an observation.rickf wrote:That would be violation of the Geneva convention I believe. Transporting combat ready troops in a vehicle marked as an ambulance.
