MVPA Convoy 2009 Wooster, Ohio

Unread post by Rainman » June 4th, 2009, 9:35 am

Hey Diamond Jim and other convoy members,
Just checking out the route for the MVPA convoy and it comes within an hour of my place here in Ohio on June 16th-17th. I hope to make it to Wooster, Ohio to meet up with them during their overnight stay. Other than DiamondJim, I don't know of any other "8" members traveling the route. DiamondJim, if there is anything you need ie parts or personal care and comfort items, let me know and I'll deliver them to you at Wooster. My parts room is fairly well supplied, so bearings, seals, or spare parts are available to you with a phone call. I'll have an ample supply of George Dickle with me, but other refreshments can be provided with just a phone call as well. :D Yes, I'll take my new digital camera with me for the photo opportunities.

UPDATE: Rainman is joining the Cross Ccounry Convoy! Made the arrangements yesterday with Terry with the MVPA Convoy group. I'll be joining the convoy sometime Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning while they travel through Ohio. Just were I hook up with them depends on when I can get away from work. Will camp with them 1 or 2 nights and jump ahead of the convoy for some video and photo ops on Wed. Home by Wed. night and back to work on Thursday. My life is just a little too hectic these days. Gotta go gather and pack.

You wouldn't happen to be taking that hood ornament with you would you? I had thought about riding with Jim out to Wooster and taking a bus home but I can't get off of work.

Hey Rick,
Nope, she's not a camping kinda girl, but she would be nice to have along on cold nights driving through the national park :D Me in the Corvair huh, you really need to come to Ohio Rick, you know you want to. I made you a cork gasket for that pear shaped water can neck you picked up at Aberdeen.

Do you have Jim's 151 ready for the convoy yet? Jim is a lucky guy, able to take 26 days to drive coast to coast with the convoy. Does have arrangements to trailer it home, or is he taking an extra week and driving it home? I hope to jump into the convoy in Alliance Ohio on Monday. My A2 will proudly wear the CC convoy dash plaque, even if I'm not going the full distance. :)

It is as ready as it is going to get. He has been driving it all over With no real problems. I am going to stop there tonight and give one more going over and maybe bleed and adjust the brakes. He is having it shipped home. He is flying back. I would love to come out to Ohio but right now time and money are against me. Work has instituted "new" policies about when you can and can not take vacation. As it stands I will not be able to go to Aberdeen next year depending on when it is held. Once companies realize that finding a new job is going to be hard they really stick it to you because they know you can not leave!

I got on at Southbend and finally met Jim Diamond, nice looking A2 Rick, and he is going strong. So far no problems with any of the 151's and most of the guys doing convoy control are in A2's. They get around quick and can go from front to back and around with ease. Left Southbend with 65 and arrived in Rochelle IL with 100+. I can't describe how emotional this trip was to me, I was proud to pass all the veterans and kids on the route. Weather is HOT and HUMID but Dj looks to be holding up as well as the A2. By the way, marching order is 1914 Dodge, staff car,2 1/2 ton,3/4 ton, jeep/mutt, chase vehicles, convoy maintenance, police. Front does 20 mph rear does 30/40 mph
