raymond, lets see, 865 miles, The Fastest 1967 Ford M151A1 in Pike County it should only take you about 17 hrs   and with your Avatar running in front of you, you would be leading the Convoy  Now the trip home may take longer with a full load of Cruzan Black Strap

I'll be there, coming in with the East Coast Convoy on Thursday afternoon. I'll try to get the M151 Group together again on Friday too, so be sure to look for the announcement some time in March.

Joe, if you wouldn't mind, I might be interested in staying over where you stayed last year. So if you think of it, please furnish me with the phone number and price of room, etc., when you get a chance? TIA.

Wouldn't miss it for the world.

Andrew will be wheeling me aroundAberdeen in my wheelchair when I am too old to walk!!!

Hi Horst,

I've read your earlier post that you may be visiting and I know all the guys that regularly attend this rally are looking forward to finally meeting you. Since this is the largest rally on the east coast and is always filled to capacity with vendors, you'll get your walking exercise just visiting each and every one of them. Bob Amon and I have resorted to driving our A2's (top off, windshield down, crawling in first gear at idle speed) up and down the numerous rows just to make things easier for finding that treasure to haul home. Visitors to the rally always enjoy seeing MV's actually being used when they can get up-close and personal with the vehicles. It's not unusual to see jeeps, mules, etc. moving slowly through the crowd in this fashion. Bob and I especially enjoy it because we get to sit while shopping. (let's see the ladies top that at the Mall.)

I've found that the Super 8 motel in Aberdeen is the best suited for me and have been staying there since the rally moved to Ripken Stadium. This motel is clean and comfortable and close to food, gas, shopping, etc. There is a cluster of similar motels in the immediate area and all are a short driving distance (mile or two) away from the rally. It's also very easy to bum a ride to and from the rally aboard any of the numerous MV's that make the trip back and forth throughout the day.

You can access Super 8's website at http://www.super8.com. Search on Aberdeen, Maryland to get to the specific website. The motel is located at:

1008 Beards Hill Rd
I-95 Exit 85 & Rt 22 East
Aberdeen, MD 21001-2230

The motel phone is: 410-272-5420 and toll-free reservations are 1-(800) 800-8000. A typical total rate is $131.23 for the 2-day stay for a queen-size bed, non-smoking room. (Smoking rooms are about $8 cheaper for some reason.) I used a AAA discount with my reservations and have a rate of $118.11 for the entire stay. A bunch of other types of discount are also available (ie. AARP

Hope this helps.
Joe

Now Joe, you know none of us are old enough to qualify for AARP! I stayed at the Wingate one exit down from Aberdeen. It is a little more money but it includes free breakfast and a pool and spa. With AAA I spent 90.00 for one night. For the price that Joe quoted though I think I am going to check there, the difference makes up for breakfast and I might be able to do without the pool. I might miss the spa though, I do have to maintain my beauty and physical perfection.

Rick,
I qualify for AARP but I didn't use that discount. I used AAA instead to try to disguise my age.....

After a day on the (sometimes) hot parking lot of the stadium, I just like to get back to the room and relax, so for me.... closer is better and I'm not away from the rally for very long. If you really have to have a pool, I'll bring along a plastic swimming pool that you can use for a spa right next to your 151, sort of killing two birds with one stone. Sunshine will make the water nice and hot and I'm sure you'll get other takers in the pool with you if the weather is hot. (I'm sure you're not the only one concerned with "beauty and physical perfection" issues at the rally. Good one, Rick!!! :D :D :D

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Joe

ps - Now, how can we entice some of our other G838 friends to join us???

The Super 8 is starting to sound like a party unto itself. One of the things I bring with me in the back of my M151A2 is a cooler-full of Corona fellas... so... a word to the wise... everybody's welcome over at my jeep anytime.

Horst, I checked out this Motel last year and second Joe's recommendation. The place is clean, convenient and, most of all, HALF THE PRICE of the Four Points Sheraton where I've stayed for 4 years before switching. They used to give me breakfast over there, but at $110 a night (an extra $60), we can always pile into a couple of jeeps and go to a Pancake House or just eat next door at the McDonalds. Besides, there's plenty of lunch food at the meet too, so it's not like you'll go hungry.

Rick, glad you got my PM and made the reservation where Joe and I are staying. Horst, Fil, Dan, Raymond, Jim, Top, et al... we'd love to have all you guys join us over there. We could turn it into a regular M151 BOQ!

Oh wait, I forgot... you guys work for a living! Besides... like the real Adrian Cronauer wisecracks... "Don't call me Sir! My mother and father were married!"
