Findlay, Ohio Show a Sucsess

Unread post by Rainman » May 24th, 2011, 11:39 am

Hey all,
Spent the weekend at the Findlay, Ohio show. Left the house headed for the show with a dead battery in the camera so will have to depend on others for pictures of the event. No exact count on M151's but at least 10 on display. This the only picture I have so far and was a passenger with Shawshank in the "Passing Review" parade. Image

Lots of 1/4 tons there this year, most were M151's. I read on SS that some of their members were disappointed with the high numbers of jeeps on site. G838'rs there were George Dickel, Tony Banks, Bob Croce, 67mutt, LilRedDodge, and Shawshank but I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. Lots of Ohio Motorpool members, Marlboro Volunteers, and MVPA folks there as well with preparations ongoing to be ready for the Al-Can Highway trip in 2012.

I saw the post on SS too, they were disappointed the Jeeps outnumbered the big stuff, or at least one guy was... kinda like we get disappointed with Aberdeen, all big stuff no jeeps....

Hey Rainman, Why is it that every show you go to you have a dead battery?

Rick, I think Rainman saying he had a "dead battery" is code for forgetting his bottle of Viagra

My camera was fully loaded, and I never took a pic. :? I was too occupied with people, vehicles, vendors, and stuff, and just didn't think about it. Thanks to Rainman for introducing me to some of the board members, and generally showing me around. This was my first time traveling with my jeep. I had a great time. Hey, if the S.S. guys want the big stuff,,,, Bring 'em! After all, we ALL like to see ' em!

I was up there too with my M151 and my buddy with his Gama Goat and Mule. We would have stayed for the Pass in Review but they had it a little too late for our taste since we left on Saturday. I met up with most of the 151 owners there I think.

Oh yeah, Snock was there too!

Hey Snock,
While checking out the goat I met a guy hanging around it that was 1st Cav. In brief conversation learned he was in the same battalion as me, and then we narrowed it down to the same company, just he was 3rd and I was 2nd platoon with overlapping dates of service. Not sure if he knew the goat guy but his name was Mittendorf and I kind of remember him as a RATT rig operator. If you get a chance see if he was a friend of you M561 friend. I'd like to continue the conversation.

Hey Top,
Sorry about the Signal Corp acronym confusion. RATT rig is the term used for RAdio TeleType commo shelter. They were equipped with, well here's a clip with more explanation than I can give. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot63cjMEcXc They could transmit TT via the AN/GRC-106's or via 26 pair cable that ran to a multi-channel UHF rig like I was assigned to, or to a ReTrans rig.

I won't go into the boring multi-channel equipment because we didn't actually terminate any communications.
Here's a picture of the UHF rig we used. Cryptography gear is installed in this picture, I just won't point it out.

Image

Everything just passed through UHF rigs either by field phone or TT data much like Re-Trans rigs. Just like it sounds, Re-Trans only re-transmitted traffic from other sources.

I got my start in a RATT rig. Had to learn how to type all over again on that TT-76.
