Cabell, to be honest, I'ld prefer the M38. Thank you very much for the offer.

Dulles is my preferred one. I don't know what will happen if I'm crossing the Atlantic with a fording extension. I do not have a license for either a boat or a sub out there.
Let me know the date for 2013, perhaps I can arrange it. :D

OK, that'll give me an excuse to get the second M38 all gussied up... :)
The dates for 2013 will be August 30-through Sept 2 (Friday before Labor Day through Labor Day itself). To be honest, a lot of folks show up on Thursday and some folks stay through Tuestday, so you could also think of it as being August 29-Sept 3....

Hope that you can make it...

I'm baaaack. Great trip, great trails. Freakin' Murphy followed me there too. Crashed on a very steep, very slimy downhill slide. That as the first part of the hill, the trees stopped me that time. luckily they were a group of saplings so they just took out the mirror and the front side marker light. Then I hear horns blowing and I figure the guys behind me are sliding down towards me so I hit the fuel and off I go again, more slide, hit the brakes and it was sort of like the old rotten tomato thing. Blown rear brake line. Thank goodness for dual braking systems!!! Still had front brakes and since I was locked in 4 low it transferred to the rears. Between that and a large rock I managed to get stopped a second time. The same trees that stopped me caught the guy coming down behind me. Got a little bigger piece of him though. Cabell had gone first and somehow managed to slide right down the middle and caught a huge tree at the end where you have to make a sharp left turn. He had scrubbed off enough speed that no damage was done to his truck. I don't think I would have tried this trail if I had the 151 with me but this truck was set up a little better for this type of use. In other words it is already pretty rough. Plus it is easy and cheap to find parts for. Say what you will about CUCV pick ups but they are easy to own. I did not get many pictures outside of my campsite because we forgot the camera every time we went out. I will see what I can glean from some of the others that went.

Well I can provide a link to the Steel Soldiers site. I think some have trouble with that though. Start at page 10.
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/steel-sold ... ly-10.html
The trail recovery on Sunday evening was a winner. They were opening up an old trail when it became apparent that the original trail must have been there before the road was put in. Keep in mind that this trail is probably 80 years old. At this point Steve, the trail boss, is at the front and pointed down at about a 45 degree angle into the woods about 75 feet above the road. We spent several hours clearing small trees and brush so he had enough space to go down. The biggest obstacle was at about 25 feet above the road it went almost vertical. The plan was to run a winch cable around a large tree and as Steve came down past that tree I would attach the cable to the rear end of his truck, that way as he passed the tree and started down the vertical part the winch truck down on the road could take up the slack and lower him down. Worked fairly well, Steve almost ended up on his side due to a hole we could not see but at that point he was hanging from the cable. The biggest issue was Steve's Jeep is a modified J10 aircraft tug and the winch truck on the road was a standard Jeep TJ. The J10 was a lot heavier and yanked the smaller jeep off its wheels for a couple of hair raising seconds. The last thing to do was for me and Sonny to get down the hill on foot. You all know what condition I am in so the end result was predictable. I started sliding down on my ass which was fine till my feet hit the stump, then it was ass over tin cups into the rock pile. I sure hope someone got a picture because it hurt like hell then and hurts worse now but nothing broken. Oh yea, did I mention it was pretty much dark by the time we finished?! I do have a couple of pictures I took the next day of the spot we came down, I took them from the road and there is no way you can tell how steep it is from the pictures. There was no way I was walking two miles up the horse trail to take pics from the top, I hope someone else posts some. I will put mine up on here later.

Here is where the jeep came down. The cable securing it went around the tree to the left in the picture. The picture gives no idea how steep this is, look at the tree to the left. That tree is straight up. The path down was to the right of the big tree there at the bottom, up past the next big tree about 75 feet up and then over to the left a bit and up another 60-70 feet. Keep in mind that this picture starts about ten feet above the road level.

I am trying but Photobucket is not cooperating. I am having a hard time uploading and then getting them to process.

I guess everyone is uploading their vacation pictures because I can't get Photobucket to work for me. I don't have any trail shots this year since we forgot to take the camera out with us. I have a couple static shots and campsite shots and that is it. I am sure no one cares about my camp site.  All I can do is refer to the above link an hope somebody sends me some or see if Cabell posts some up.
