Wonderful! It looks like we are going to have a good size group of folks attending. :)

I should be there on Saturday with a friend. The plan is to ride motorcycles down.

Just got back to my friends house in Southern PA around 6 tonight from the Rally. It was a quick trip and when I get home on Sunday it'll be about a 700 mile motorcycle ride! Thanks to Clell, I was able to drive (for the first time) a 151 (A2). After that my friend and I rode with Clell and his son (and dog) for over an hour in the hills of the Rally site. I was very impressed with how the jeep handled the trails. Great food was served and met some new people. Maybe next year I'll be able to bring mine. Nice job on the event Cabell and thanks again Clell!

I saw a few pics from the rally. Looks like ya'll were having a blast! Beautiful country and nice trucks! These lil' jeeps will go just about anywhere in the woods as you found out. And do it in style!
I'm gearing up for the rally down here in Ga. and can't wait! Love being out in the woods with the M151A2 and the Landie. Over a hundred military trucks last yr. It's gonn'a be +1 M151A2 this yr!

The boys got a pass this weekend I so took Ian, Gunnar, Driver out to Graves Mt. Rally this weekend and what fun!. Caravan out with Blake from Hampton Roads and arrived Friday afternoon, left Sunday afternoon. Met Guy - LPcoating and friend Ray who rode in on their bikes (great guys!) and big RickF was there with his CJ. We were the only two 151's, there were 2 M38's, 3M37s a GPW bunch of 5 tons, Carl's 44 HalfTrack NannyGoat and a bunch of non MV off roaders. There were lots of organized trail rides with the MV group or non MV group but Blake and I opted to go it alone and find our own way around the mountain and boy did we spending about 7-8 hours on the trails between Fri afternoon and Sun morning. I have always known these were great vehicles but never got to put one through the test until this weekend. We climbed fresh cut trails full of dirt, rocks, tree debris some at 30-45 degree grades, forded streams! Basically put her in 4 and 1St and she crawled up the hill and through the streams even with 4 and a dog on board. Never came close to getting stuck. Blake bottomed out on a ridge once but managed to get his rig turned around after a few tacks with a couple wheels in the air! Got it all on GoPro with about 3 hours of video and covered all the trails we rode so once I figure out how to make a movie will post for all to see. Thanks Cabell for a great event and killer BBQ dinner Sat evening. If you are looking for a place to have some with your mutt from hard surface trails to as much as you want to put it through in a beautiful mountain setting you should plan to attend this event next year. I'm coming back and we need to get a good showing of 151's!!!!! There is also lots of things to do in the area for those non MV lovers in the family, horse riding, trail walking, vineyards, and Montpelier (home of James Madison) all withing a short drive. Some photos until I can get the GoPro video's up.

Stopped along a trail meadow, Blake's 151 (with top) and mine.

Bottom of a new trail Blake found, taken by Guy, Ray is friend in back with Ian. This trail had 40 degree grades and one area curving around a hill with about 30 degree angle on trail (with a wooded cliff on the low side), when we came down and around I was not sure we were going to make it without rolling over or sliding off the trail but we all leaned uphill, took it slow and she crawled around!

Thanks to everyone that came to the gathering this year. Chuck (BMan) is still updating his spreadsheets, but he did tell me that I had 70 folks registered this year, and a handful that did not register that attended (most noteably, the folks who had supper with us at the Lodge on Thursday who came down on Friday for a trailride and a halftrack ride...).

One thing that I was really impressed with was the number of folks who had the whole familly attend, wives, girlfriends, kids, dogs...everyone... It has been a goal of mine from the beginning that this be an event where you can bring the familly so that they can see and participate in our collective hobby.

I also need to thank a bunch of folks, some here and a bunch over at Rockridge Offroad (the civilian Jeepers), for all the hard work that was done before and during the event to ensure that it was a successful weekend. The list is long, and you all know who you are...

It was great seeing everyone, both those who have been before and those attending for the first time.

We'll do it again next year on the same weekend...

Somehow, I missed this otherwise Mr. Dickel might not have survived the weekend... :)
I did manage to find some Devil's Cut though and that did help me sleep on Saturday night (and Sunday night as well...). ;)

What? No Garbee pic's? I know you have the only pic of my rig in it's complete traveling form. The only pics I have are of the break downs and they were separated. If you could e-mail me the pic's you took when I arrived that would be great.

Got tied up when I got home and have not had time to download pictures. Here are some that we took, did not get out all that much this year because wife was sick the whole time there but for the last day.

This was day one of the 6 hour trip

Image

This was the second day of a 6 hour trip. Wal Mart parking lots make fair camp sites. Shredded this tire at 8:00 Wednesday night and did not get a tow here and settled down until midnight. Really long day. started driving at 10:00 and made 180 miles in 16 hours. What a day!

Civilian side. I parked here this year and felt kind of out of place.

The dinner. And the red solo cups held SODA!! The beer drinking was back in the field.

The luxury accommodations, Yea right, the generator quit so no AC and let me tell you, this thing was not designed for natural air movement. It was HOT!
