Graves Mountain Trailrides and Rally -September 2016

Unread post by cgarbee » March 9th, 2016, 6:09 pm

The dates for the 2016 edition of the Graves Mountain MV Trailrides and Rally at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, Virginia, have been set...

We will officially be holding the event on September 1-5, 2016.
Yes, some of you can come early to "help set up"...

I'll update the website for the event before too long...and Chuck will come up with a T-shirt design...etc...
Unless somebody tells me that I need to change something, plan on the same schedule as last year (just with a few more folks...)

Hope to see a bunch of you there.

I'm in, I know Blake is coming also. For anyone looking to drive their 151's the way they were meant to be driven this is a great event. They have organized rides or you can just go off on your own or with a friend. Difficult, easy, scary, fun, hills, pastures, streams, its all there. And then there is the BBQ dinner! Would love to see more 151ers this year so make plans to come. There are even things for the family to do if you want to bring them like horse back riding and hiking. Its just a beautiful part of the country. My wife and daughter wanted to come last year and they had a blast, even rode some trails with us!

Time for an update:

The flyer/registration forms are done and have been sent to Amnon so that he can update the official event website.
I have created a Facebook event page for it (but you have to be a friend, or a friend of somebody on the invite list to see it...I didn't want it viewable by the entire world...).
If you are on Facebook and can't see it, holler and we'll ensure that you can...

Chuck is working on the t-shirt design (we know what it will look like, he just has to finish the artwork...).

Unless I can figure out how to attach a PDF to a post, you will have to get the registration form from www.gravesmountaintrailrides.com or PM/email me for one.

We will be performing some trail maintenance over the July 4th holiday. We will also be watching the fireworks display that Graves Mountain Lodge puts on (about 45 minutes in length). PM me if you are interesting in helping out and getting a preview of the trails...

Amnon has updated the website.
It now shows the correct dates and has the proper registration form.

We'll add the shirt info before too long.

Just thought that I would let everyone know that we will be having a work weekend on July 2-4...
The Graves set off fireworks (professional, 45 minute show) on the 4th at 2100 with bands, food, etc. all afternoon leading up to the fireworks.
We will be meeting in the camp field each morning at 0900 to ride the trails and perform maintenance (trash pickup, brush cutting, etc.).

If you are in the area and want a preview of the Labor Day Weekend activities, drop on by (give me a shout beforehand so that we can be expecting you...).

Clell posted a photo on Facebook yesterday of his dog riding along in his M151 and it reminded me that I should let everyone know that this event is very dog friendly.
Your hound should bring a leash though so that they can keep you close when you are in the camping area... ;)

We just lost Ranger last week so we are down to one, this one gets along with other dogs so we may be able to move up into the group more this year. I was going to try to come down for the July 4th festivities but I am having eye surgery on the 6th so that is cutting it too close.

UPDATE TIME

We have been up to the event site a couple times in the last month ensuring that the trails are clear and ready for vehicles. Managed to create another pair of loop trails on the mountain that can be run with five ton trucks (I am taking my M817 dump truck as my trail truck this year, so you know we have to have several for me to run on...).
Got a bunch of folks bringing M151s, but we always need more... :)
Shirt design has been sent to the shirt shop and we will have a bunch on site for folks to purchase. Those who indicated a desire to get one on their registration form are guaranteed shirts, others are on a first come basis.

Remember that we have an on-site vehicle repair facility (and have used it in the past to repair some trail trucks that needed some TLC during the event), just in case your vehicle isn't 100%...

You have about a month until rally time, so you still have time to make plans to attend...or to drag your friends along with you... ;)

With regrets looks like I will not make it this year as a friend needs my help bringing his boat back from Maine to Va. Beach during the same time via off shore. About the only thing I like more than jeep riding on trails is being on a boat so the boat wins. Always subject to change with the weather and the fact that one of his motors is in repair so if trip cancels I will show up last min!

BUT TO ANYONE THINKING ABOUT THIS RALLY I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO MAKE IT, GREAT TIME AND FAB PLACE TO PUT YOUR 151 THROUGH ITS COURSES!!!!

Of course, if you could convince him to delay his trip, perhaps I could sign on as a deck hand AND you could come to the rally... (I love boating, especially on other folk's boats...).

I should advise everyone that this rally is very family friendly... with about a third of the attendees of the rally being wives, girlfriends, or children...
The location has plenty of activities (wineries, hiking trails, swimming pool, horseback riding, historic sites nearby, shooting range, etc.) for those who might not like to be immersed in OD/Forest Green/CAMO all day every day...
We also have plenty of cabins and motel rooms (and a restaurant on site) for those who don't wish to camp...
