Why does everyone prefer an A2

Never really understood this. High demand, lower results (uncut).

Probably because of the suspension improvements for a starter.

Maybe because of the rear suspension?(harder to roll, the trailing arm, vs swing arm) this is a non-educated guess).better light system(tail lights/blinkers)

When I was shopping (in the mid 90's) beggars couldn't be choosers.

Meanwhile, I have the fastest M151 in Pike County Mo

I prefer the A1, In my opinion it is a better ride. And if you know how to drive there is no concern of rolling it.

The A2 had all the improvements that were the results of experience with prior models.
Better lighting, improved brakes, mechancal fuel pump,
Electric wipers and windshield washer , better steering improved suspension.
It is also newer so the sheet metal is probably in better condition than older models.

Just some personal observations from owning A2s for almost 25 years.

My wife rolled my TJ Wrangler doing 20kph in a suburban street when she clipped the speed limiting curve. Ended up against a tree with the drivers door turned into a V and the steering wheel flush with the drivers seat! How she got out with just a minor ankle fracture is beyond me. Needless to say she does not drive my A2...

The important thing about lights is people can see you, especially the rear/brake

I don't drive in heavy traffic with my Jeep and I also have a "farm tractor" triangle that tells people to watch out.
"Horn broke watch for finger" works too. lol

Probably because there were fewer released to the public. With that being said, it's what I drove in the Army.

I have owned three G838s one M151A1 and two M151A2s. Like others have posted, improved rear suspension & upgraded lights (& electric wipers) but for me, I always thought the A2s looked better with their dog eared front fenders and those large turn signals. The A1s just sort of look like the typical flat fendered "Army Jeep". Nothing wrong with that & I admit that I do miss my 'ol A1.

I like mine because it was all I could buy in Australia at the time, they are few and far between here. Just bought and installed a NOS gearbox from Red River, full clutch kit also and a few other bits. New gearbox for $1000 US , clutch kit for $125. what a bargain.
