getting oil pressure in storied engines

Unread post by Mark » October 28th, 2016, 6:03 pm

I have 3 engines, one on engine stand,2 engines have transmission connected to them setting on the floor, so to get oil in the passages, etc I thought I could get an air impact wrench, put it on the dampner bolt to turn the engine over so I'd get oil pumped in the passageways. But I don't think I can get the engine turning over fast enough to pump the oil.Any feedback for me?

You have taken out the spark plugs, yes? And the engines with the transmissions attached....you have wedged the clutch "disengaged"?
With the plugs in place and with the transmissions/transfers being turned, you are unlikely to get much speed up !

Plus the impact wrench will continue to tighten the crank bolt trough the impact action until it breaks or more likely strips the threads in the crank. I have seen that done on one already. The best way to do it is with the starter with the plugs out and some oil added to the cylinders and the valve train. Make sure there is fresh oil in the engine and a new filter. It helps to pre fill the filter as much as you can even though it is on its side. I fill them and let them sit on the counter for a while and then pour out the oil to the level needed to match the angle the filter is on. You are going to spill a little but at least the filter is not dry.

Hi you can also remove the distributor put a shaft in the distributor hole and spin it with a air or electric drill, all the best Joe.
