paint sheen -24087

Unread post by Lindsay36551 » November 30th, 2016, 7:23 am

Hey all,
Getting ready to shoot a project with fed code 24087, semi gloss.
I did a test sheet and MAN this looks like full gloss!!!
Does any one know if this will "calm down" and if so how long will it take?
also is their a trick to lessen the gloss?
As allways
Best regards
Lindsay :o :o :o

If this is the paint from Rapco then it needs to be scrapped from the bottom and then shaken on a shaker for a long time. I was told this by Mark from Rapco when I had the same problem . Once you use some of it though you have already changed the ratio so I don't know how that will affect the remaining paint once it is shaken well. I can tell you that it will not change once it is laid down.

Scrape all of the stuff off of the bottom of the can first so it gets mixed into the paint.

How fast was the dry time using Mineral Spirits? I would think it would dry slower than the Xylene I normally use. Alan

Xylene will dry too fast and make the paint brittle and have a tendency to flake off. Also it will not flow out at all and you will get orange peel effect. The longer the dry time the better the finish as long as the base coat is good. Personally I use enamel reducer and I match the speed of the reducer to the temperature that I am painting it. Usually a medium reducer.

Humm... Flaking is a sign that the surface was not prepped right. I have not had problems with Xylene drying too fast. A good tack coat is key to avoiding orange peel.

One winter I had to quickly paint a garage door for my Father in-law after it was damaged and got fixed. I used white enamel with Acetone as the reducer. It cured well and is still good today.
