Front Grill Weather-Stripping

Unread post by hondo100 » January 16th, 2017, 8:16 am

Has anyone ever replaced the rubber weather-stripping on the front grill? How did you fasten the rubber back to the grill?

Thanks,

I see no one has answered so I'll try to help. What year and model is your truck? Are there holes on the top flange of the grill such as would be used for brad-type fasteners?

If you are referring to the bottom rubber gasket. I kind of remembered it being secured with heavy staples.
Dont know if you could find the parts to do the same thing.
If. I were to do it now i would use pop rivets and washers to do the same thing.
Hope that helps.

First off, the "weatherstripping" isn't rubber, it's a fiber. You can buy some on eBay and then pop-rivet it to the grill.
If you're referring to the rubber that seals around the radiator, I used some black vinyl baseboard material and riveted that to the frame around the radiator. Worked great.

If you are referring to the welting on the top of the grill it is indeed woven material .
It is held in place with split rivets.
Both items are available from places like Restoration Specialties and others.
I was under the assumption that he was talking about the bottomand side edge which is a rubber type product.
On my A2 NOS grill it is attached wid heavy staples.
Your idea of using cove moulding is interesting as long as it can stand the heat.
