I reread a book while recuperating from my surgery, The Battle for Khe San, and it details the Seabee's building the runway and some of the reinforced housing there. Much as I bust on Seabee I will tell you that is a job that most people would not want. You are trying to use hand tools while people are shooting at you. And the heavy equipment operators.................. They cannot hear the gunfire until it hits hopefully the equipment where they can see it and not them. Nowadays the bulldozers are uparmored, in Vietnam they were wide open with a ROPS and in WWII they were just plain WIDE OPEN! The highest point was the operator. I learned to operate on a 1943 Cat D8. (In 1959, not 43!!)

SALUTE to the Seabees and happy birthday.

Their still a bunch of thieves!

Now gentlemen....be nice. :D
We all know that the company scrounge....er.... acquisition engineer, can be worth his weight in gold.......maybe literally
I never was in the military, but I have been .....well.....the guy to go to for parts in several companies. Mind you, never an official title. Everyone hates you until the chips are down and they NEED your services. Then it is another story.
I have a certain respect for those who get things done when the bean counters don't think it is so.

(We need a thumbs up emotie)

Besides I have worked with a lot of Seabees through the years......good people. :D
Still crazy after all these years.

ODG, This has been a long running joke between Seabee and I since the inception of this site and possibly even before on the 503. We all know Seabee's were rather "Resourceful" when it comes to finding things they needed so that just sort of got blown up. (Not by a whole lot) I was not in the Seabees but we had an acquisition specialist in my unit and he was good, I mean he was GOOD! In Vietnam we had Johnny Walker Black! Most of you will know what that was worth on the black market. We had Budweiser, not "33". Never asked him where he got the stuff although we did have to cover for him occasionally with alibi's when the MP's came asking. Of coarse they never saw the stuff we had either, we stashed that quite well .

Yep, I am aware. Actually I've thrown a few barbs myself.....all in good humor.
As I was never in the military, I can throw barbs indiscriminately, as I really have no partiality. :?
99 percent of the time it makes for a fun discussion. One time at a swap meet a guy I knew was a marine came around and asked if I had some marine boots. Without missing a beat, I said yes sir, right here and handed him a pair of 2 left boots. It took a few seconds for him to realize that they were 2 lefts, and I could see that little light come on and he knew he was being put on. Since he knew me, and realized the situation, he immediately replied....no....not army, I want Marine boots. It was good for a laugh, and we are still friends.

That is what this is all about....having a bit of fun is a good thing.
Maybe....just a bit,  my humor can be a bit skewed though I am told........reference my photos about my mutt.

Besides, as a fellow Missourian, I will pick on Seabee or defend him just because he is a Missourian, though he as far away from me in this state as could possibly be.
I bet he can't even say Missourah right.  I would be he says Missouree.
All the best.....ODG
