It was cold and wet! I went down for Thursday and Friday. Thursday was flat our miserable, Fricay not too bad except it would warm up when the sun came out and get pretty damn cool when it went it. The place was emptying out when I left Saturday at Friday at 1:00. Saturday must have been empty.

Hey, You got to see me! I actually left not long after that, Bernie came back and we talked a bit and then I took off. Had trailer brake issues on the way home (they stopped working) so I got home around 4:00.

I guess I should put up the picture of he Steel Soldiers Steak dinner on Thursday. Copied from my SS post.
Well, Aberdeen was Aberdeen, Unpredictable weather as usual. And the die hards did what we do best, WE ATE WELL!!!!! I want to thank Scrounger, Ziggy and his Dad for putting together fantastic steak dinner on Thursday evening. It was wet, it was damp and it was borderline cold but I will tell the food was good! And to all of those out there that missed it here are some pics to rub it in. Sorry for the bad pics this year but the good camera was NOT coming out in that rain, Cell phone will have to do.
And let me tell you, getting that tarp up in the rain was interesting to say the least, sure glad there were no videos of that!

By the way, Fil missed it, If he had looked left as he drove by in the rain Thursday he would have seen me doing KP duty washing the pots and pans in the rain getting ready for the dinner.  Missed out on a good blackmail shot there!

I was thinking about taking a run up there at the last min but now I'm glad that I didn't. Sorry to hear that it was a bust.

On a somewhat related note; it's been quite a few years since all the G838 owners have gotten together for a dinner (usually held during the rally)?

This was a different dinner put on by a different Steel Soldiers member. It was started last year in memory of Dudley Taylor who was one of the biggest military vehicle supporters in the area. He was also a real character who helped a lot of people at Aberdeen. Scrounger started this dinner last year on Thursday and then we had the dinner that had been put on by Cabell Garbee for years on Friday. This was going to be the last year for the Friday dinner due to lack of people showing up. Then The rally organizers cut out all of our spots this year with no notice and we all just said the hell with it and decided not to buy any spots and the Friday dinner ended a year early. I can't speak for Scrounger if he will continue to have the dinners, He did also have a Friday dinner this year too.

Most of the original group that started meeting together down there are gone. Fil still comes every years as do I but Bob Amon has disappeared, Joe from Delaware no longer comes although he is still on the forums, Louie from NJ has not been there since the first or second year at Ripkin. Horst did make it once but it is quite understandable that he is not coming from Germany for a show like that. Especially after the one time he did come. It was the coldest and wettest show I can remember! I did finally meet Wwinget this year.

Wish I had checked in here prior to heading up. I would have liked to have met you gentlemen. I was with Winget in Green A1-A3. The rain Thursday was to our advantage, we stayed open till the end of the day as most were covering up and sold nearly half of our junk.

I was there Friday morning to Sat morning. The exodus on Friday night was something to behold. Not that there were that many people to leave anyway. It was the most empty I have ever seen it. It didnt really start raining on Friday till about 10PM. By then the scotch had kicked in and I was going to sleep anyway :)

The weather had a lot to do with the attendance, it always has. If they predict cold and rain it is going to be sparse. Face it, how many people want to drive long distances to be out in a cold rain all day? On times when it has been warm and rain it has been much better. I can tell you that a show on a parking lot on a 95 degree sunny day is no picnic either. That asphalt will get upwards of 130-140 degree and just radiates!

The weather aside, Aberdeen show is a venue who's time has come and gone.
Remember going in 95 and on.
Those shows were a kick to attend.
Drivng 7 hours or flying just doesnt make sense.
Thanks we had a good time with friends or it would have been worse!

I was going to make a similar comment. Though I can remember a lot of folks saying the same thing about the Ft.Indiantown gap WWII reenactment. I haven't been to Aberdeen in a few years now (just don't seem to have the spare funds anymore) but might try to make an appearance. I've actually always wanted to check out the Findlay,Oh & Tower park shows as I've never been to either of those...... Oh well, there's always next year I guess......
