Hot floor?
Gents!
Success!! Engine runs and wheels turn in gear (although the transmission is still leaking a bit)....
Question for you all: the floor between the front seats gets way hot...is this normal?
Thanks! Pics coming soon!

Re: Hot floor?
There is supposed to be a heat shield between the muffler and the floor but all the shield is is a piece of curved sheet metal and it is usually rusty so heat is transferred from the muffler to the shield and then from that to the floor. I have melted plastic bags on that section of floor. Great for keeping coffee hot in cool weather though.

Anything you wrap it with will trap moisture and cause it to rot. The best thing to do is to sandblast it and then paint the muffler side of it silver or white to reflect the heat. You could also paint it with ceramic pain, don't know how well that would work in that instance but it works on headers.

Re: Hot floor?
There are plenty of racing / street rodder products that can help mitigate the transfer of heat in tight places. Something like this, perhaps? (though I would recommend a mechanical connection to the underside of floor pan rather than relying solely upon the adhesive) This particular product says it requires one inch of clearance to be effective. Of course, excessive idling is going to reduce the airflow in that area to nearly nothing so the heat issue can be greatly reduced by giving some careful consideration to how you are operating the vehicle as well.

Do a little web surfing and I'm sure you'll come up with a variety of similar products that will do the job.
I often drive mine to do grocery shopping and put plastic grocery bags on the area between the seat. Haven't melted a bag yet but it's hard on the groceries.
Helpful hint: I also have two modern molle canteen pouches attached to the front corners of the front seat frames, co-located just behind the transmission hump so that their bottoms rest on the floorpan between the seats. I tuck the covers inside and use these as soft holders for soda cans or bottles and whatever else might need kept readily at hand. They work great and there seems to be little or no appreciable heat transfer up in that area.

Re: Hot floor?
I took a truck bed liner and cut it to fit my floor. Had it left over after putting a spray liner in the truck. Took care of the heat and protects the floor from rocks that get caught in my boots. Easy enough to get out also. I also put a large ammo can between the seats for a arm rest and to put a Styrofoam cooler inside for water and ice.
