passenger side mirror

Unread post by Mark » May 29th, 2017, 10:58 am

Ok, I want to put a passenger side mirror on the A2, I don't want to take the heater out, so I am thinking if I take out the air vent(which should be simple?) then I would gain access to the nuts to the hinge so I could bolt on the mirror base.I think that's how I did it on the 151?(ya, my memory is lacking--dementa??)
Anyone have any feedback??

The nuts on the hinge are cage nuts, That does not guarantee that they are in good enough shape to stay in the cage when taking the screws out though. I think all but one of mine broke the cages on the drivers side. That said you also cannot get a wrench on them because of the cages so you are going to have to get creative, I have never worked around the heater but I think it is pretty tight against the vent.

Unfortunately they are Not cage nuts on an A2. They are simple nut and bolt.
Dont ask how I know!!!
Mounting the mirror some other way might be better or planning to remove the heater as I finally did would be the only answer.

I guess I could try the horizontal bolts(windshield side) on the other half of the hinge
Thanks for the feedback

What a bear to open up that whole assembly after it was in place with silicone rtv , hoses in place, cross wiring in place.
All because I wanted a right side mirror!
