It's almost that time again! Thanks to all the good men who stood up and did their duty.

M3A1 and Seabee62,
I am proud to say that my late father-in-law was among the first French soldiers ashore at Sword Beach on D-Day. He had come to England as a teenager when France fell in 1940 and was in No1 French Troop, No 10 (Inter Allied) Commando which was given the honour (?) of being the first to hit the beach under Philippe Kieffer to attack the Casino strongpoint - shown in the movie The Longest Day. The Free French commandos are still revered in France and my father-in-law's name is included on a monument in Ouistreham.
He survived the war, being sent home sick from Normandy later in 44 and later took part in the attack on Walcheren. I am glad to say he survived as he went back to his sweetheart in Sussex and had four children, including my wife. This year June 6 falls on a Tuesday and I will think of him at around 7am when as a young man, a third of my age now, he stepped back on to his native soil, and of all the D-Day veterans.

Looking at my watch right now I'm thinking we're also celebrating the anniversary of a great deal of sea-sickness. :(

I have been following a You Tube channel by a pilot named Juan Brown, he has been covering the Oroville Dam problems since it flooded back in March. He is a commercial pilot in his day job and he gave this little background snippet for Memorial day. Can you imagine a tougher or more fulfilling job both at the same time?

Thank you Mr Juan Brown.
