M151/A1 ZENITH CARBURETOR SOURCE

Unread post by 64 M151 » June 28th, 2017, 10:08 pm

I have researched this to no end and came across this site that has brand new ones e.g. not NOS or TO's. I contacted them about rebuild kits and will update when I get a response. For a brand new carburetor not a bad price at $339.53 where I seen some NOS going more towards the $400.00 + and who knows how long they been sitting around. Now I don't know if it will work on A2's or not but looks right on 100% for the M151 / A1's. But I'm sure with a little modification that it could work on A2's

Joe,

I ordered the rebuild kits from Norfar. They are stock number K2167 for the Zenith carb. All the parts are new manufacture, even the diaphragm is new rubber. I have rebuilt the 13660 carb on my A2 and it is working perfectly. I just followed the directions in the manual. The K2167 kit doesn't come with instructions.

Good Luck, Cal

Joe,

One more thing. The 13660 carb is an A2 carb with the return line.

The 13660 can be used on an A1, just block off the return line. It will actually run better due to some bigger jets and passages. The one that Norfar is selling is a 13660B, it was supposed to be a BZ but that did not happen. That is where I buy all of my kits but be aware if you buy a kit that the kit does not have the gasket for the emulsion jet coming up from the bottom of the bowl.

Thanks guys for the replies and suggestions. I always save the good ole parts because one never knows that you have to reuse something because it is missing or doesn't come with the kit. I just ordered a kit.

Hey Joe, That kit comes with that little tiny gasket for the idle tube in the bowl so watch for it in the bag, it is real easy to lose. I leave it in the bag until just before I am putting that jet in and then I take it out, put it on the jet and install it and put the bowl on.

I think my A2 (with one of the poor after-market copy carbs) has had the return line blanked off by the original restorer. Would this affect the way it runs? Some of the emmissions stuff has been blanked off at the fuel tank, so only has a feed line to the (retro-fitted) electric pump then direct to the carb. I have the original Zenith it came with, and have just ordered the rebuild kit for it.

No difference. That rebuild kit is for the 13660 so if you have an original 12848 then some of the stuff will be different but most will work. It will get the job done.

Thanks for the confirmation. I'm well versed with fuel returns on diesel engines, but never come across them on carburetor engines before!

The only reason it is there on the carburetor engine is for any vapor that forms in the line from boiling fuel to be able to pass directly back to the tank. When you take that fitting off you will see a small hole and that is all there is to it, a small metered hole to allow some gas and any vapor to pass back to the tank to keep things moving in the line. By blocking it off you are essentially making it the same as any other gasoline powered car. (with a carburetor)
