Identifying by serial number

Unread post by nim205 » July 7th, 2017, 7:36 am

Hi, this is my first post here.

I'm in the process of buying an M151, and need some help. It is ex-IDF, probably ex- US a6rmy too as many of them were sold to the IDF after Vietnam.

It is in sorry shape but alive, and I have a great fondness for the M151 having used them during my service.

The attached picture is from the right hand side of the driver leg well, below the gear levers.

Any info to be gathered from it?

Thanks!

Welcome!

There is certainly the knowledge available on this board to help you, just wait until Ken chimes in. Apparently you have an AMG M151A2. You probably know already that there is a quite a chance that the engine is no longer the original one but nevertheless you can post a picture of that dataplate. Also post as many pictures of the jeep as you want, we will all jump on them and help you to identify what's right and wrong.

Is there still a data plate on the dash? Not likely but that will have the date of manufacture on it and the military assigned number. Ken will be able to give you a real close idea of the year and month it was made by the body numbers you provided. Just so you know, those numbers are not the vehicle identification numbers. The M151 technically did not have a VIN number, it had an assigned number by the military that would have been on the data plate and painted on or under the hood or on the dash. If you do not have any of those numbers then you are out of luck as far as the official ID number.
