Rick,

Got a set of those in my closet right now. Was issued to me in '74. Won't fit now tho. ;)

The FS 595 catalog of shades is usually the bible for any reputable paint supplier. Here's a link to Milspray's FS catalog:-

When I first arrived at Ft Hood, fall 1974, you could see some pretty funky shades of colors there. Now I believe it was due to cost cutting and the lower quality of paint reacting to the sun. So if you want official, use the FS.

Smart, because if you make a suggestion or show him a picture and he goes for it, then he goes somewhere and is told it is wrong then he will be right back at your place demanding a repaint at your expense.

There are a few threads pertaining to this camo pattern used on M151s & other MVs over in the M151 section of the G503 forum. In (one? some?) those threads there were some rather nice pics of M151s in the various versions of the MERDC pattern including the "summer verdant". If I recall, the summer verdant pic didn't look like it'd glow in the dark like the one in this thread.

My last A2 which I sold to Krink762 had a well faded temperate verdant pattern (like the A2 in this thread) on it. Always thought that pattern was kind of sharp looking when brand new. I may do my M548A1 up in that pattern seeing how it was sporting it at one time (it's showing through some of the layers of flaking paint-so is 24087  ).

You may want to contact Blackdog as he's done up a couple of post VN MVs in the MERDC pattern for the Marine Corps museum out in Camp Pendleton,Ca.

Here's a link to a G503 thread (had to do some digging for this! ) that has a nice pic of the "summer (jungle?) verdant scheme. http://g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f= ... er+verdant The pic of which I speak was posted by Blackdog and are the last two pics in the thread. There's also some nice pics of both the desert & temperate verdant patterns in that thread as well.

That's a stunning colour scheme!

My A2 is likely to have seen use in the middle east (markings found suggest it may have been used by both sides in a conflict), and I saw some pics of a MUTT in Kuwati colours which I'm tempted to do it in. Not correct for my machine, but correct region and I like it. Some of these schemes seem very fiddly to apply. Do most spray or brush these?

I will tell you if you can snatch the pebble from my hand....Grasshopper... :P How equipment was painted in the Military depended on what your (or "A") particular unit had access to. Some units had access to compressors (& spray guns) so their stuff might get "spray painted" while other units that didn't have access to such equipment would break out the brushes & hand paint whatever it was that needed painting.

If you spray the pattern on your vehicle the edges of each color pattern tend to blur into one another & it has more of a softer blended appareance (if that makes sense). If you use a brush, a nice result can be had but the shapes in the pattern come out a little more sharper to one another.

This might help - there is a shot of a forum member's newly acquired M718 in the correct MERDC Summer Verdant camouflage scheme here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=10892&start=15
Although it has seen better days, you can see how the colours are more muted than the Tropical MERDC schemes that have popped up in this discussion.

The Squadron Signal book M151 Mutt In Action by David Doyle has the Summer Verdant scheme on a 718 on page 77, a TOW on page 71 and deck cargo Mutts on page 59.

There's also an image of a newly restored A2 in that pattern on the first page of this thread.

Who in his right mind would paint a perfectly good vehicle that color combination!!

Just another opinion.

Sorry Hambone,
I meant the paint scheme had seen better days! Your 718 looks great and I am sure it will look even better soon! (stop digging now)
