Get on eBay and look up ERDL jungle fatigue. You'll see it. They were issued to LRPS and S.F. I believe from 1966 to 1969. Probably wrong on the dates though. They were called ERDL for the manufacture at that time was Engineered Research and Development Laboratories. You probably can Google ERDL also.

I do not need to get on E-Bay or Google. I was there and I know what we were wearing and it certainly was NOT THAT! It was a woodland camo and and was subdued with black emblems. That brilliant green would have made great targets for the snipers. I cannot profess to have been all over the world but personally I have never seen fluorescent green foliage.

Did some google fu on it. Seems there were two different ERDL styles. One lowland and one highland. Similar to comparing the summer vs the winter MERDC. The highland was more brownish while the lowland was more greenish and I dare say had some lime green in it which gives it that fluorescent look in pictures. Supposedly the brownish cammies were most used in the later years and as stated above, the green ones saw very limited use by the likes of green berets, etc. Course I read it on the internet so it must be true. Either way, I think we can all see why it was not very popular.

Breath easy Rick. I don't read it as dauntless telling you what you wore, only that he saw 151's in late 70's painted similar and he believes it's patterned off of stuff that has seen service but only on a/the few. I found several pics on the net which appear to be of the lowland variety while putting in searches of Green Berets, LRRP's, etc. but as you know I wasn't even alive when most of these pictures were taken! Colors do fade or change over time even on the high quality paper from back then. I will say this... whoever gets it painted that way will have a head turner!

This was captioned as a LRRP team in 1967. They do stick out.

This one is a member of the same team in 67.

Three things to bear in mind here.
1. Even though cammo pattern uniforms may have been used in VietNam, there was no authorization for using patterns on vehicles until August 1975. Local commanders had authority to have the hood numbers and the US Army markings in matt black instead of the matt white.....but that was it. By the time cammo was introduced for vehicles, the war was over.

2. The picture of the Summer pattern posted by Surveyor shows a very light green. The diagram I posted shows the shade used by MERDC which is Light Green FS 34151. I know that the colours on computer monitors can vary wildly but I very much doubt that the bright light green on that mutt is FS 34151.

3. As well as the Summer-US & Europe 4-color pattern....there's also a Tropics 4-colour pattern consisting of:-
Forest Green 34079
Dark Green 34102
Light Green 34151
Black 37038

The Summer pattern and the Tropics pattern are very different in appearance !

He could probably ask if it was 34151 at http://www.imfmotorpool.com/index.html before Lindsay "Guinea Pig" 36551 pulls out the sprayer.

Yes indeed. If I were Lindsay, I'd make sure that any paint I used was made up to those Federal Standard shades, not some dealer's best-guess version. If he's going to do it for a client, he should get it right first time.

The FS 595 catalog of shades is usually the bible for any reputable paint supplier. Here's a link to Milspray's FS catalog:-

I would tell the "client", I call them customers, to do the appropriate research and when he makes up his mind then contact you with the pattern and color. That is HIS job and your is to do the actual painting.I can tell you from a lot of experience the playing third party never works out in the end.

That scheme seems to be an elusive one search wise. I did find one of Muttguru's favorites but it's the one for trees and not open terrain. Only thing I see that shows it in detail is the model schematics like the other above.

Winter w/trees...

This is what "Snow-Temperatate Open Terrain" would look like.
