Export Issues

Unread post by kmam » July 19th, 2017, 6:26 pm

I ordered two new axle seals for my A2 the other day but was contacted by the dealer to explain:

"I am sorry to say that we cannot fulfill your order, due to export restrictions.
We do not possess an export license and the item that you are wanting is
still considered a restricted item. I am sorry for the inconvenience."

A friend had the same problem ordering a headset for a WW2 military telephone switchboard!

Seems the regulations are a bit of a catch-all... I was able to order them from a supplier in another country so all is not lost :)

The way around that is to have it sent to a member and they can send it to you. Just mark the customs form "auto parts" "Jeep parts" or "Antique radio parts". Now this will work with countries that we are not in active conflicts in. I would not try to send stuff to Pakistan or Afghanistan. Sorry Sherwan.

Yeah, Australia Post actually has a mailing address in the USA for Australian customers. Maybe it was because my A2 is from Pakistan? ;)

Hi all

Interesting I had the same response from a US parts supplier about supplying parts outside the US to New Zealand, which could be on sold to a foreign (non friendly) country. They required a declaration to be completed that re supply to others was not my intent! I completed and returned the relevant docs they required for export. - (to date I have yet to purchase parts from them)
Interesting, I have purchased numerous parts from other US parts suppliers - no declaration - no problems and parts arrive here in NZ as ordered??

P/s Totally understand the US Government position on supply of military parts/components to non friendly countries, but the quantities we are talking about to support the restoration and repair of one vehicle are hardly going to equip and maintain a serious military presence!

This is a major pain for me as well. Getting parts for the Ferret from England is always dicey as to weather the vendor requires export paperwork. Its not that its hard, its just time consuming and mostly has to be done via snail mail which just adds to the wait. It took me 8 weeks to get a fuel pump last year and the guy had it in stock :)
