Do winches like Smittybilt Winch fit M151 Jeeps?

Short answer? NO. The frame on a M-151 is unibody and not really strong enough for a winch. Have people done it? Yes, many times. As long as you fabricate a good strong bracket that will attach and tie the rails together then it will be passable. I would not use it for anything more than getting myself out. You start trying to pull others out while anchored to something you will rip off the front of the unibody. It has happened several times. Remember that it will have to be a 24 volt winch.

the Iltis vehicles used by the Canadian military had an interesting self recovery system you might want to check into. a cage was bolted on to the front wheels, the anchor point was set out in front of the vehicle, and the cable ends were brought back and connected to the cages. engage the four wheel drive, let the clutch out and the cable would wind onto the cages on the front wheels, pulling you out of where you are stuck, without stressing the unibody.
