vietnam era stencils

Postby curtsm151 » September 1st, 2017, 10:20 am

Thought I my try and see if the experts would know what the correct stenciling would be for a 1964 M151.
The unit is 173rd Airborne Brigade, Troop E, 17th Cavalry.

Passenger Front Driver Front
Rick thought it might be; 173ABN 17CAV TRP E - 3

Sound right?

I believe there should not be the "TRP" abbreviation, only the company letter.

For me, it was 2 (armor triangle here) 1-I (capital letter I for Infantry)-50 on left side as viewed from in front. Company designation and individual vehicle was on right side , in this case CSC (combat support company) 21.

But I can also attest that there has been a fair amount of "wiggle room" applied to vehicle marking over my 42 years with the Army.

We made them in the Motor Pool to keep the 2nd Lt's from falling out when they fell asleep on road marches! ;)
