Interesting photo in this months Supply Line..

Unread post by njjeeper » October 6th, 2017, 11:02 am

To all the folks who said it was never called a "MUTT", this is direct from ford according to the article. Considering this debate pops up here from time to time I thought I would share.

I think the controversy is that the MILITARY never called it a Mutt.......Ford did.

I was never been in the military, but I have been involved with military surplus and military vehicles for around 40 years or so.
I have NEVER heard military references to it being a Mutt other than is was the Military Utility Tactical Truck, or Multipurpose Utility Tactical Truck, or some other variation of MUTT.

Some collectors and especially those of the MVPA have insisted on the term Mutt for years.

I don't really care what it is called.....it is fun.

So is it proper............your mileage may vary,
Still crazy after all these years.
The OD bug bit me in 1970......and I have never been the same

I think it is interesting...but nothing to get all worked up about.

I think it's even more interesting that people refer to these trucks as jeeps but I believe the explanation for that is, people were using the name in reference to a class of vehicles before the name, Jeep, got "branded."

As most of you probably already know (and I am presently finding out, first hand) JEEP stands for, "Just Empty Every Pocket."

?

I have heard of some people saying "That's not a jeep" to M151 owners but have never had this happen to myself. I have had "I like your big jeep" said to me when I had a WC51 :? Are the people at supply line anti-G838?

I use both. I don't do FB for social crap but I use it a lot for vehicle hobby stuff. For example the Ferret Facebook page is more useful than any of the traditional Ferret websites by a wide margin. The local FB classified pages are usually a great place for deals too. I got a fully operational 6 ton capacity CAT forklift for 1800 bucks delivered from a random facebook post a few months ago. Just sayin it may be worth checking out :)
