Talked to a fraternity brother of mine who is a lawyer. Extremely hard to sue the government under such circumstances. Even individuals acting as agent of the military would be protected under "qualified immunity" I.E. the government and it's agents acted in a "reasonable manner". It was the subsequent civilian owners who acted in an "unreasonable manner" by deliberately using said equipment in a manner proscribed. Therefore, all legal responsibility and liability rests on the civilian owner. Also would not likely result in suspension of sales.

I do know of one occasion
A yard in the watertown NY area bough quite a few m151<s to demill
He he scrapped out quite a few and saved a few The nice low mileage ones.
He decided to sell a few uncut and had an auction . The feds found out and shut it down pressed charges etc. I believe they either took them back or had them demilled.
That was in Adams ny

Legend has it that a guy in Missouri went to jail for buying Mutts and not demiling them all. For a few hundred bucks extra you could buy one that he forgot to cut. The inspector found out because he was driving along I-70 and saw a farmer driving a Mutt through his field.

I'd say your Mutt is more likely to be stolen by some hoodlum on the street than to be taken by the government. (On the other hand, rumor has it that "the government is coming for us all!") :D
